Harry Edward Jones Named a Lifetime Achiever by Marquis Who's Who

Mr. Jones has been endorsed by Marquis Who's Who as a leader in the diplomacy industry

FREDERICKSBURG, VA, October 06, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to name Harry Edward Jones a Lifetime Achiever. An accomplished listee, Mr. Jones celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Mr. Jones is a retired foreign service officer of the U.S. Department of State, and has served for 37 years in foreign affairs and political economics with the rank of Minister Counselor. He has served in many countries, but remembers vividly his posting in Poznan, Poland during martial law. There were no communications, but Mr. Jones was one of the first Americans to meet with Solidarity members in historic support of the eventual fall of communism in the country.

Born in Philadelphia, PA, the city of brotherly love, to Harry Edward and Helen Jean Jones, Mr. Jones did not intend to become a diplomat. He attended Pennsylvania State University and served with the U.S. Army from 1960 to 1962. By sheer chance, Mr. Jones worked temporarily at the Department of State, took the exam and passed, joining the U.S. Department of State in 1965. As Mr. Jones puts it, "it was dumb luck!"

That stroke of fortune became an inspiring career in diplomacy. Mr. Jones served as a senior foreign service officer for much of his career, and was able to influence matters in consular politics and economic affairs while in the army. He studied at George Washington University, and later completed an MPA from Pennsylvania State University in 1975. Mr. Jones is now a member of the American Foreign Service Association and DACOR, the Diplomatic and Consular Officers, Retired.

Over the course of his career representing American interests to allied countries, Mr. Jones has contributed to numerous professional journals and has been present at historic events. He was a senior fellow at the Atlantic Council. He is a novelist, and published "Shadow in a Weary Land" in 1992, drawing from his experience as consul general in Tel Aviv to write a political thriller that "...powerfully conveys the futility that powers the escalating spiral of violence in the Middle East," according to Publishers Weekly.

For invaluable diplomatic services to the United States of America, Mr. Jones was selected for inclusion in numerous volumes of Who's Who in America, as well as two volumes of Who's Who in the World in 2007 and 2009. He is the father of Michael Sumner, Christopher Steven, and Anne Pelton with his late wife, Patricia Anna Pascoe. Mr. Jones recently married Stephanie Cherubin in July of 2016. He frequently helps with food bank distribution, packing, and loading trucks with sundry for the needy. Mr. Jones enjoys painting, gardening, his book club, and writing op-eds for the Free-Lance Star in Fredericksburg.

In recognition of outstanding contributions to his profession and the Marquis Who's Who community, Mr. Jones has been featured on the Marquis Who's Who Lifetime Achievers website. Please visit www.ltachievers.com for more information about this honor.
