Hyungjin Lim, PhD, Recognized for Commitment to Police Science

Dr. Lim is a dedicated public servant who recently joined Baekseok University as an assistant professor



    CHUNGCHEONGNAM-DO, REPUBLIC OF KOREA, December 19, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Hyungjin Lim, PhD, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Drawing upon more than two decades of hands-on experience in the field of police science, Dr. Lim serves as an assistant professor with Baekseok University. In this position, he teaches classes on police science, traffic safety, big data analysis and comparative police systems. His research interests include environmental criminology, victimology, white collar crime and spatial analysis. Previously, Dr. Lim served as an adjunct professor with the Korean National Police University, adjunct professor with the Police Training Institute in South Korea and teaching assistant with the School of Criminal Justice at the University of Cincinnati.

A respected voice in the area of police science, Dr. Lim has contributed numerous articles, reports and presentations to the field. Most recently, he was credited with co-authoring "Crime-Reduction Effects of Open-street CCTV: Conditionality Considerations" in Justice Quarterly and "A Study on the Recognition of Residents on the Effectiveness of a CPTED Project in General Residential Areas: Focused on 'Crime Zeroing Project' in Nowon-gu, Seoul" in the Journal of Community Safety and Security by Environmental Design. In 2017, he authored "The Crime-Reduction Effects of Open-street CCTV around Elementary Schools," which was published in the Korean Security Science Review. Dr. Lim has delivered presentations throughout the United States, including at the American Society of Criminology Annual Meeting in 2011 and 2014.

In an effort to remain alert of recent developments in his fields of focus, Dr. Lim maintains involvement with the Korea CPTED Association, The Korea Association for Industrial Security, Korean Association for Public Security Administration, Korea Security Science Association, Korean Association of Police Science, Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences and American Society of Criminology. He has served as a research officer with the Police Science Institute.

Prior to pursuing a career in education, Dr. Lim received a Bachelor of Arts in Law from the Korean National Police University in 1994. During the next two decades, he served various police departments in a variety of roles. These positions included working as an inspector with the Jeju Provincial Police Agency, Mobile Police Regiment II, Joongrang Police Station, Seongbuk Police Station and Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency. After he was promoted to the rank of senior inspector in 2001, he served as the 77th Commander of the Special Mobile Police Regiment, and as a traffic accident investigation manager with the Seongbuk Police Station and Joongrang Police Station. Most recently, Dr. Lim served as the chief of the Sangbong Precinct with the Joongrang Police Station, and traffic and defense division manager with the Chuncheon Police Station. Since 2008, he has been recognized as a superintendent.

In 2009, Dr. Lim took a temporary leave from the Police Administration Division to pursue continued education. He went on to attend the University of Cincinnati, where he received a Master of Science in Criminal Justice in 2011, Master of Science in Statistics in 2013, and PhD in Criminal Justice in 2015. His dissertation entitled, "Crime Reduction Effects of Open-street CCTVs in Cincinnati," was completed under the advisement of Dr. Pamela Wilcox. While completing formal education, Dr. Lim received a Certificate of Geographic Information Sciences through the University of Cincinnati. He joined Baekseok University as an assistant professor in 2017.

Throughout the course of his career, Dr. Lim has been continually recognized for his contributions as a public servant and educator. He previously received the Award of the Commissioner General from the Korean National Police, Award of the President from the Korean National Police University, Award of the Commissioner from the Seoul Metropolitan Police and Award of the Commissioner from the Jeonbuk Provincial Police, as well as several awards from chiefs of police stations.
