Mr. Watson was a longtime broadcaster and journalist for one of the most recognized companies in the communications business. After serving in the U.S. Army, Mr. Watson completed his undergraduate work at Harvard University in 1959, and Master's degree at Columbia University in 1960. Landing his first role with The Washington Post, he spent one year reporting for the newspaper giant. A career that exceeded 40 years, Mr. Watson later retired in 2001, after spending 39 years with ABC News. Commencing his career as a correspondent and exiting the company as a senior contributing editor, he also held the roles of Moscow bureau chief, London bureau chief, and twice served as the Washington bureau chief, vice president, and executive-in-charge. He also spent a year as managing editor and vice president for Cable News Network in 1980.

A dedicated professional who continued to rise to the top in one of the most competitive fields, Mr. Watson was recognized several times for his tenacity. He was the recipient of a National News Emmy Award in 1984. Presented by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences in recognition of excellence in American national news and documentary programming, the academy first started granting the National News Emmy Award, which covers approximately 40 categories, in 1980. He also won a DuPont Columbia Award from his alma mater, Columbia University, in the Graduate School of Journalism in New York City in 1983. Considered by many to be the broadcast equivalent to the Pulitzer Prize, another program administered by Columbia University, the award honors excellence in broadcast and digital journalism in the public service. Furthermore, Mr. Watson received a Peabody Award in 1982, which was established by a committee of the National Association of Broadcasters in 1940, after the American businessman and philanthropist George Peabody, to honor excellence in radio broadcasting.

Throughout his career, Mr. Watson has been a member of such organizations as The National Press Club, the Radio News Directors Association, and the Society of Professional Journalists. He is also a longtime member of the Overseas Press Club of America, an organization that consists of 500 leaders in the journalism industry who work both in the United States and abroad. Mr. Watson was honored by the organization with an award for Best Television Documentary in 1972, and was honored a second time with a Citation for Excellence in 1974.

Married to Ellen Havican Bradley since 1979, Mr. Watson is the father of two children. He has been included in every edition of Who's Who in America since 1987, nearly every edition of Who's Who in the World since 1987, and nearly every edition of Who's Who in the East since 1995. He has also been cited in several editions of Who's Who in Finance and Business, Who's Who in Finance and Industry, and Who's Who in the Media and Communication.
