Marquis Who's Who Celebrates Q. Edward Wang, PhD, for Academic Excellence

Dr. Wang celebrates 25 years in the history department at Rowan University



Dr. Wsng is renowned in his field for his academic research in historiography and the cultural and intellectual history of Asia.

    CHERRY HILL, NJ, January 09, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Q. Edward Wang, PhD, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Renowned in his field for his academic research in historiography and the cultural and intellectual history of Asia, Dr. Wang has served Rowan University for 25 years. Beginning his career at the university in 1992, Dr. Wang served as an assistant professor in the Department of History for five years. He was subsequently promoted to associate professor in 1997, and served as chair of the department from 1998 to 2007. In 2001, Dr. Wang was named a full professor and has since acted as the coordinator of the Asian Studies Program. Dr. Wang is also a Changjiang Professor at Peking University in China, as well as secretary general (2005-2015) and board member of the International Commission for the History of Theory of Historiography. In addition, his work in academia commenced prior to his work at Rowan University; from 1991 to 1992, he served as lecturer at the University of Rhode Island in Kingstown, RI. He began his career as a lecturer at the East China Normal University in Shanghai in 1984, subsequently serving the institute for three years.

Dr. Wang received a PhD from Syracuse University in 1992, and holds a Master of Arts and Bachelor of Arts from East China Normal University. He recently published Chopsticks: A Cultural and Culinary History, which explores the history and practice of chopstick use in regions of Asia and around the world, which subsequently appeared in Chinese, Japanese and Korean translations and resulted in TV, web and radio interviews. He is also the author of The Idea of History in the West, published in 1998; Postmodernism and Historiography: A Chinese-Western Comparison, published in 2000; Inventing China through History: The May 4th Approach to Historiography, published in 2001; and Mirroring the Past: The Writing and Use of History in Imperial China, published in 2005, and most recently, A Global History of Modern Historiography in 2008 (revised edition in 2017), which has been translated into Chinese, German, Greek, Russian etc.. Dr. Wang is also the editor of Chinese Studies in History, published by Taylor & Francis of Routledge and also acted as the editor of Turning Points in Historiography: A Cross-Cultural Perspective, published in 2002, The Many Faces of Clio: Cross-Cultural Approaches to Historiography in 2007, and Marxist Historiographies: A Global Perspective in 2016. He has further authored numerous articles published in academic journals and book reviews, and has presented his research at conferences around the world. Dr. Wang is a member of the International Society for Intellectual History, the Association for Asian Studies, and he acted as the president of Chinese Historians in the United States from 1992 to 1993.

Recognized for his expertise in the field, Dr. Wang was honored with a Fellowship by the Institute for Advanced Study at Princeton in 2010. Rowan University also awarded him the Faculty Research Achievement Award in 2013. Dr. Wang is the son of Xiaocang and Shifen Wang and has been married to Ni Gao for 30 years. In his spare time, he enjoys swimming, reading and travelling.
