Dr. Manzano-Ruiz serves as the manager of flow assurance at the Bechtel Corporation, a position he has held since 2013. He previously served as the assistant manager of Technip USA from 2009 to 2013, and he acted as the process engineering manager at Jacobs Engineering from 2006 to 2009. He also served BP-Amoco in Houston, TX, as the senior process engineer from 2001 to 2004, and held various other senior engineering and executive positions at BP in Venezuela from 1997 through 2001. Dr. Manzano-Ruiz also served in academia as a full professor of mechanical and chemical engineering at the Simon Bolivar University, Caracas, Venezuela, from 1981 to 1996, as a Visiting Professor at University of Bristol, Bristol, UK, from 1991 to 1994, and as an adjunct professor of mechanical engineering at the Metropolitana University, Caracas, Venezuela, from 1980 to 1987. Dr. Manzano-Ruiz applied his expertise in the field as an engineering consultant with Petroleos de Venezuela from 1989 to 1994 and held a variety of engineering and management positions at Intevep in Los Teques, Venezuela, from 1981 through 1988. An early start in his career was as a research associate at Instituto Venezolano de Investigacion Cientifica from 1980 to 1981, serving in the position for one year.

Dr. Manzano-Ruiz graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering in 1981 and a Minor in Business Administration from the Sloan School at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Other graduate degrees awarded by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology include a Master of Science in mechanical engineering and the Mechanical Engineer degree, both in 1977. He also was awarded a bachelor degree in industrial engineering at the Catolica Andres Bello University, Caracas, Venezuela in 1974. He is licensed to practice as a professional engineer in Venezuela and in the State of Texas, USA. Dr. Manzano-Ruiz holds patents on steam quality measurement using a neutron-attenuation device and has authored more than 45 articles and papers published in technical journals and conference proceedings. He is a current member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the NETL Multiphase Flow Science, the Gas Processors Midstream Association and the AICHE Flow Assurance Houston Chapter. He is a past member of the Technip College of Experts - Flow Assurance and Heat Transfer - Paris, France, the Multiphase Flow ASME Group, the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers, the Instrument Society of America and the research board of advisors of the American Biographical Institute.

In acknowledgement of his outstanding contributions to the industry, he was commended by the Bechtel Corporation as a Distinguished Engineer in 2015. He was also honored with a science fellowship from the Instituto Venezolano de Investigacion Cientifica from 1975 to 1980, and with the first Marie Sktodowska-Curie actions research fellowship programme granted to a Latin-American by the European Commission from 1991 to 1992.
