ARLINGTON, MA, March 09, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Michael Philip Manheim with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Mr. Manheim celebrates over 48 years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

After earning a bachelor's degree in business at the University of Pennsylvania in 1962, and spending the next seven years of his career in his family's retail business, Mr. Manheim needed to follow his passion. An avid amateur photographer beginning in his teen years, he created a new career as a professional photographer based in the state of Massachusetts and traveling widely. His early work is journalistic in nature, covering assignments for a wide variety of publications. His reflexively intuitive approach to photography evolved into the lyrical and evocative fine art photographs of his later work.

An artist-in-residence at The Pahoa Village Museum in 2010, the Easton Mountain Retreat in 2010, the Phillips Exeter Academy in 2002, and the summertime Bates College dance festival from 2001 to 2004, Manheim is widely recognized for his experimental and innovative multiple exposure photographs as well as for his photojournalism. A theme extending throughout both expresses emotion released into movement.

Mr. Manheim sat down for an interview with the American Society of Media Photographers after winning a Best of 2017 award from the association. He said, "Photography became an outlet not only for creative expression, but for dealing with emotion in what now seems like a straitlaced decade (the 1950s). We didn't directly express feelings in my family, to be sure; we were expected to know what the other person was thinking. As a result, my photography tuned in to body language, to feelings. A photojournalistic approach to my people pictures sharpened my reflexes, creating an ability to react while simultaneously forming a compositional frame. This acquired skill later went into developing a multiple exposure technique for my fine art photography exploration that fit well with galleries and museums, led to the residencies, and went online. In it, I asked my subjects to reach down into their inner selves, meditate on what they were feeling, and release that into movement. I didn't direct, I witnessed and reacted, layering images into my camera. The results are intentional surprises, and the best [are] revealing and rewarding."

Mr. Manheim's photographs are held in private as well as public collections, including the Library of Congress, the International Photography Hall of Fame, the Danforth Museum of Art, and more. His photography has been displayed in over 30 group and 20 solo exhibitions throughout the United States, Germany, Greece and Italy. His work has been featured in magazines such as Zoom (U.S. and Italy), Photographers International (Taiwan), La Fotografia (Spain), Black and White Magazine (U.S.). It has been published in hundreds of other magazines as well as in books, newspapers and online.

Mr. Manheim is currently editing his archives to create monographs of his themes. Some are nostalgic small books of his earliest work, chosen and collected under the umbrella of "how once we looked," such as "The Smoking Fifties" (2017). A new series features multiple exposures that reveal the hidden self. "Where My Spirit Guides Us: Ancient Hula on the Big Island of Hawaii" is the first of these to appear.

All of his books can be found on Amazon by entering Michael Philip Manheim into its search field.
