iCare Oral Surgery Introduces New Dental Cone Beam CT Scanner

Dental patients to benefit from new 3D and 4D x-ray imaging.

COMMERCE TOWNSHIP, MI, March 22, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- iCare Oral Surgery and Dental Implant Center, a leader in providing advanced dental care in Commerce Township, is excited to announce that they have recently acquired a dental cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) scanner that creates 3D and 4D images. This technology takes dental x-rays to a whole new level with the ability to view teeth, soft tissues, bone and nerve pathways with amazing clarity in a single scan.

Unlike regular CT scans that are used in hospitals, the CBCT emits an x-ray beam in the shape of a cone that rotates 360-degrees around a patient's head providing detailed 3D and 4D imaging of the neck, jaw, and face. The machine can capture 150-200 high-resolution 2D images from different angles then reconstruct and digitally combine them to create one 3D image. The entire scan can be completed in less than a minute.

"The CBCT device allows us to gather the critical details needed to provide specialized treatment for patients in just one visit," stated Dr. William L. Thompson, founder of iCare Oral Surgery. "The CBCT is extremely useful in planning orthodontic treatment, assessing trauma, as well as diagnosing and treating impacted teeth, identifying jaw tumors, removing wisdom teeth, and performing reconstructive surgery."

The CBCT provides a thorough scan of the jaw, sinuses, nerve canals, and the nasal cavity. It can also help pinpoint painful infections. If there is a root abscess, the CBCT can evaluate the area to help plan the course of treatment.

Dental cone beam technology does not require any special preparation, it is painless and noninvasive, and there is less exposure to radiation compared to traditional CT scans. The highly skilled team at iCare Oral Surgery is trained to interpret the results and provide a precise diagnosis. The cone beam CT scanner provides a level of accuracy far superior than that of any 2D technology.
