Since 1979, Dr. Ortinau has made more than 225 presentations at professional academic meetings, including at Academy of Marketing Science (AMS) conferences, Society for Marketing Advances (SMA) conferences, American Marketing Association (AMA) conferences, and AMS-World Marketing Congresses, as well as many more at non-academic meetings. He has been involved as a chairman, panel member, and reviewer/judge for multiple conferences and has long been involved with many non-paid and paid consulting and partnership activities over the past near 40 years for various organizations and businesses.

A longstanding member of the AMS, the AMA, the SMA, and the Association for Consumer Research, among others, Dr. Ortinau has been honored countless times for his work. He most recently received the Harold W. Berkman Distinguished AMS Service Award in 2016 and the Outstanding Top 5% Editorial Reviewer Award for JAMS in 2016.
