SEATTLE, WA, April 18, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Philip Buckner with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Mr. Buckner celebrates many years of experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

With nearly 60 years of professional experience, Mr. Buckner served as the president of the Buckner News Alliance from 1971 to 2013. Having begun the company in partnership with Jim Scripps, he was the publisher of 14 daily newspapers across the nation, including the Carlsbad Current-Argus in New Mexico, the Pecos Enterprise in Texas, the Tiffin Advertiser-Tribune in Ohio, the Minot News in North Dakota, the Winsted Citizen in Connecticut, and the Excelsior Springs Standard in Missouri. Additionally, he published the Lewistown Sentinel, the York Dispatch, and the York Daily Record in Pennsylvania, and the Fontana Herald-News, the Banning and Beaumont Gazette, the Oroville Mercury-Register, and the Corona Independent in California.

Prior to founding his own company, Mr. Buckner worked with Scripps League Newspapers as a division manager from 1966 to 1971, having been the assistant to the treasurer since 1964. Earlier in his career, he worked as a publisher of the East Providence Post in Rhode Island from 1960 to 1962, a reporter with the Sun in Lowell, MA, from 1959 to 1960, and with the Bay State Abrasive Products Company from 1954 to 1959.

Mr. Buckner was inspired to enter a career in journalism from an early age, having been interested in history and having a talent for writing while in school. He first studied at Harvard University, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in 1952, later earning a Master of Arts from Columbia University in 1954. Encouraged by his mentor, Jim Scripps, he pursued his passion for investigative news to help improve local government.
