Dr. Wang is currently an associate professor in the department of naval architecture and ocean engineering at Shanghai Jiao Tong University in Shanghai, China. First hired in 2003 as a research engineer and moving into the role of senior research engineer two years later, Dr. Wang formerly served as a research assistant at the University of Washington in the United States. Teaching courses that have included Principles of Naval Architecture, Modern Ship Structural Design, Model Tests in Principles of Naval Architecture and Shipyard Production Practicum, Dr. Wang has had the pleasure of supervising five bachelor theses and 14 master's theses and has assisted in the supervision of one doctoral dissertation.

A career in academia that stems from working for more than a decade as a naval architect in the engineering department at the Yantai Shipyard in China, hull section director in the design and development department at the Friede Goldman Halter-Yantai Raffles Shipyard in China, and hull design engineer in the engineering department at the Kvaerner Philadelphia Shipyard, Inc., now known as Philly Shipyard, in the United States, Dr. Wang has since conducted 27 research projects, funded through the Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Serving as the principal investigator or co-investigator on these research and consulting projects from such organizations as the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology, the Chinese Ministry of Education and the Chinese Ministry of Finance between 2007 and 2016, he currently holds seven patents in his field.

Authoring close to 40 peer-reviewed articles over the past decade and serving as a reviewer for over a dozen different journals, including the Journal of Ship Production and Design and the International Journal of Nonlinear Mechanics, Dr. Wang is also the author of the book "Marine Structural Analysis and Design," which was published in English through the Shanghai Jiao Tong University Press in 2013. He currently serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Ship Production and Design in the United States since 2010 and as an associate editor since 2016.

Dr. Wang is a member of the dynamic stability task group for the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (SNAME) and as a committee member of the joint SNAME/ASNE ship design committee since 2010. He is a longtime member of the Shanghai Society of Naval Architects and Ocean Engineers and a lifetime member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the SNAME.

Earning a Bachelor of Science in naval architecture and ocean engineering at the Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Master of Science in industrial engineering at the University of Washington, and Doctor of Philosophy in naval architecture and ocean engineering at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Dr. Wang has since been the recipient of several awards for his work. Recently, he received an outstanding reviewer award by the journal of Ocean Engineering in 2017. He also received a Key Scientific Article Certificate for Renewable Energy Innovations Excellence in 2017 and one for Advances in Engineering Innovation Excellence in 2016, as well as a Certificate of Award by the Institute of Scientific and Technical Information of China, Ministry of Science and Technology in 2014, among several others.
