A pioneer in the field of hypertension, Dr. Frohlich is recognized globally over many years for his work in developing treatment for his clinical experience with hypertensive patients and for his over 40 years of clinical and research achievements. He is currently the Alton Ochsner Distinguished Scientist at Ochsner Clinic. He has also been a long-time Clinical Professor of Medicine and Adjunct Professor of Pharmacology at Tulane University School of Medicine and as Professor of Medicine and as Professor of Internal Medicine and Physiology at Louisiana State University during the past four decades. Dr. Frohlich has served as Vice President of Academic Affairs and as the Vice President of Education and Research at Alton Ochsner Medical Foundation. Prior to this he served as Research Professor and Professor of Medicine, Physiology and Biophysics and of Pharmacology at the University of Oklahoma School of Medicine, Staff Member of the Research Division at Cleveland Clinic, Associate in Medicine and Veterans Administration Clinical Investigatorship at Northwestern University in Chicago.

Completing a Bachelor of Arts at Washington and Jefferson College and Doctor of Medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, Dr. Frohlich completed his internship and residency at D.C. General Hospital his subspecialty Internal Medicine residency and Cardiovascular Medicine at Georgetown University Hospital in 1963. He then earned his Master's degree at Northwestern University in 1963. Dr. Frohlich's interests in medicine have focused on the prevention and reversal of hypertension-related complications involving his subsequent leadership and research in left ventricular hypertrophy and heart and kidney failure and the investigation of all novel medications for hypertension ever since 1958. During his career, he has written extensively and published more than 1,000 articles in peer reviewed journals dealing with hypertension and cardiovascular and renal diseases and he has also authored over 40 textbooks. He has served on numerous national and international editorial boards, and was Editor-in-Chief of "Hypertension" for 10 years, the premier journal in the field of one of the prestigious journals of the American Heart Association. He also served in the same capacity for the "Journal Laboratory and Clinical Medicine" during the 1970s.

The former President of the Society of Geriatric Cardiology, former Director of the Louisiana chapter, and as former chairman of the Council for High Blood Pressure Research of the American Heart Association, and leadership with active membership of numerous other professional societies, Dr. Frohlich is an elected Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American College of Cardiology, and Master of the American College of Physicians. He has received multiple awards from many organizations over the years, including an Award of Merit in 1986, a Lifetime Achievement Award of many prestigious societies since the 1990's, and the Okamoto International Award from the Japanese Society of Cardiovascular Medicine and the American Heart Association in 1994, and a Distinguished Scientist Award from the American College of Cardiology in 2005. Additionally, he has been the recipient of countless other awards for his work in the field of hypertension and also received an honorary Doctor of Science from the University of Buenos Aires in 2001. In November 2015, Dr. Frohlich was honored by Ochsner Health Systems for his contributions to cardiovascular and renal medicine by the prestigious Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, MA, a Harvard University Medical School teaching hospital. The hospital honored him by establishing the Edward D. Frohlich, MD, Distinguished Chair in Cardiovascular Pathophysiology at Brigham and Women's. Married for nearly 60 years having three children and three grandchildren, Dr. Frohlich has been showcased in dozens of editions of Who's Who, including Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare and Who's Who in Science and Engineering.
