Michael Sobolewski Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Dr. Sobolewski has been endorsed by Marquis Who's Who as a leader in the fields of computer science and higher education

LUBBOCK, TX, May 11, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Michael Sobolewski, PhD, ScD, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Sobolewski celebrates many years of experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. Sobolewski is the principal investigator and director of Service Oriented Computing EnviRonment (SORCER), an interdisciplinary laboratory in the computer science department at Texas Tech University where the principal goal is research in network, service, and object-centric programming and metaprogramming. By applying object-oriented techniques directly to the network, which is treated as a service, SORCER brings together faculty, researchers, and students in research, development, and experimentation with network objects and metacomputers (cyberspaces). Under the direction of Dr. Sobolewski, members pursue innovations in distributed computing that will yield substantive, long-term improvements in the ways that people collaborate and share network resources.

Retiring as a professor of computer science at Texas Tech University in 2009 after seven years, Dr. Sobolewski, who focused much of his research on distributed service-centric metaprogramming, taught a number of courses in the areas of artificial intelligence, knowledge-based systems, computer graphics, graphical user interfaces, and object-oriented programming courses. A scientist at the Air Force Research Lab, he is currently a directorate and professor at the Polish-Japanese Academy of Information Technology in Warsaw, Poland. He previously spent eight years as a senior computer scientist, FIPER chief architect, and lead developer with GE Global Research Center, five years as a research associate at the Concurrent Engineering Research Center at West Virginia University, and 18 years as a research professor in his home country of Poland at the Polish Academy Sciences in Warsaw.

During Dr. Sobolewski's tenure with GE, he was responsible for leading the successful CAMnet/DARA project during 1995 and 1996, which included the development of tools and methodology to deliver manufacturing and engineering services via the internet. While at West Virginia University, he developed a knowledge-based environment for concurrent engineering, which was based on his novel percept knowledge representation scheme, a motif-based generic application, GIU client for information sharing system, and a GUI interface for medical informatic systems. While with the Polish Academy of Sciences, Dr. Sobolewski served as head of the picture recognition and processing department, the expert systems laboratory, and the pattern recognition methodology laboratory, and conducted research in the area of knowledge representation, knowledge-based systems, pattern recognition, image processing, neural networks, and graphical interfaces.

Dr. Sobolewski earned a Diploma, with distinction, from St. Petersburg Electro-Technical University in Russia, followed by an MS in Computer Engineering form Gdansk University of Technology in Poland, a PhD from the Institute of Computer Science at the Polish Academy of Science, and a DSc from the Polish-Japanese Institute of Information Technology. He has contributed more than 100 articles to peer reviewed journals, as well as conferences and books on the topics of distributed computing, AI, knowledge representation, expert systems, object oriented programming, and concurrent engineering. Dr. Sobolewski has also been honored numerous times, including by being named an Honorary Professor of Computer Science by the academic council at Ulyanovsk State University in 2007. He was the recipient of an Outstanding Service Award from West Virginia University in 1994, and earned several GE Managerial Awards from the GE Global Research Center from 1998 to 2000. An elected fellow and life member of the International Society of Productivity Enhancement, where Dr. Sobolewski served as vice president and received numerous awards, including a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2014, he has also been highlighted in every edition of Who's Who in America since 2009, as well as in the 27th edition of Who's Who in the World.

In recognition of outstanding contributions to his profession and the Marquis Who's Who community, Michael Sobolewski, PhD, ScD, has been featured on the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement website. Please visit www.ltachievers.com for more information about this honor.
