With over 50 years of legal experience to his credit, Mr. Sorkin spent his entire career with Cahill Gordon & Reindel LLP, first as an associate from 1969 to 1975, then as a partner from 1975 to 2010, where he was co-head of the firm's antitrust and trade regulation group, and then as senior counsel, retiring in 2014. He began his career as a law clerk to Judge J. Joseph Smith of the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit from 1968 to 1969.

He has counseled clients on all aspects of antitrust law, including mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, competitor collaborations, distribution and licensing practices, and price discrimination. He has represented clients before the Federal Trade Commission, the Antitrust Division of the Department of Justice, and state and foreign antitrust authorities, and has litigated a wide range of antitrust issues in federal and state courts.

He has represented clients in U.S. and cross-border investigations of international cartels and related treble damage litigation in a variety of industries, including vitamins, thermal fax paper, sodium gluconate, rubber chemicals, hydrogen peroxide, and financial services.

Mr. Sorkin attended Brown University, earning a Bachelor of Arts, summa cum laude, in 1964. He received a Juris Doctor at Yale Law School in 1967. Mr. Sorkin completed his studies at the London School of Economics and Political Science, graduating with a Master of Laws in 1968.

Mr. Sorkin has served as an adjunct professor of law at Fordham University School of Law (since 2007), visiting professor at the University of Freiburg in Germany (since 2016), visiting professor of law at the University of Amsterdam Law School (since 2014) and was a visiting professor of law at Catolica Portuguesa School of Law in Lisbon in 2009. Mr. Sorkin held the position of visiting lecturer at Yale Law School from 2011 to 2013, as well as Yale University from 1972 to 1973, and he has lectured to various professional organizations over the years.

He has also served on the Fordham Competition Law Institute's Advisory Board since 2015 and the Institute for Consumer Antitrust Studies Advisory Board at Loyola University School of Law since 2008. A board member for the Dramatists Legal Defense Fund since 2016, he has represented the Dramatists Guild, the trade association of American playwrights, for many years, and successfully represented the Guild in the defense of an antitrust action that resulted in the negotiation of the contract used today by playwrights and producers for Broadway productions. He also participated on behalf of the Guild in the landmark case involving a disputed claim of co-authorship of the prize-winning Broadway musical "Rent." Mr. Sorkin has also served on the board of directors for New York Lawyers for the Public Interest from 1990 to 1993, the Legal Aid Society from 1988 to 1994, and Sympho Inc. since 2011.

A contributor to "State Antitrust Law" (1984), he is co-author of "Understanding the Antitrust Laws" (1986), a chapter author of "The International Handbook on Private Enforcement of Competition Law" (2010), and has served on the editorial boards of the LexisNexis Antitrust Report since 2004, and the Antitrust & Trade Regulation Report of the Bureau of National Affairs from 2008 to 2016. Mr. Sorkin has also contributed articles to professional journals, including the Antitrust Magazine of the American Bar Association in 2017. He was a research assistant for Anthony Lester and Geoffrey Bindman for their 1972 book "Race and Law."

Mr. Sorkin has held multiple roles with the Yale Law School Association, including president from 2007 to 2009, chairman from 2009 to 2011, and as a member of the executive committee since 2000. He served on the Association of the Bar of the City of New York's Committee for Trade Regulation from 1974 to 1977 and from 1995 to 1998, as well as the Committee on Electronic Funds Transfer from 1979 to 1980. Furthermore, Mr. Sorkin has been a member of the Antitrust Law Section of the American Bar Association, having served as co-chair of the International Civil Redress Task Force from 2011 to 2013. co-chair of the Global Civil Redress committee from 2013 to 2014, and a member of the International Cartel Task Force from 2014 to the present. He is also a member of the Antitrust Law Section of the New York State Bar Association, where he has served as section secretary, chair of the committee on mergers, and member of the executive committee. He was also chair of the antitrust committee of the New York State Bar Association Commercial and Federal Litigation Section from 1996 to 1998.

Mr. Sorkin has received several awards and honors throughout his career. In 1998, he was presented with the Thurgood Marshall Award from the Association of the Bar of the City of New York. He has been a fellow of the New York Bar Foundation since 2006, and was a Fulbright Scholar at the London School of Economics and Political Science from 1967 to 1968. He is a "recommended" competition lawyer in the Global Counsel Competition Law Handbook.

Mr. Sorkin's biography has been included in multiple editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Law, Who's Who in the East, Who's Who in the World and Who's Who of Emerging Leaders in America.
