Lein, Ph.D., with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Lein celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Professor emeritus of English, Dr. Lein taught at Purdue University for his entire career. First hired as an assistant professor in 1970, he later earned the title of full professor, where he remained until retirement in 2017. During his tenure on campus, he served as the chair of the Lilly Endowment Initiatives Honors Seminar and Research Experiences Committee for four years, and was the director of the honors program in the College of Liberal Arts for 15 years. Among the many courses he created and taught were courses entitled Florence in the Renaissance, Leonardo da Vinci, Attitudes towards Death in Literature, Voyagers and Vagabonds, and On Creativity, as well as a course on dreams and dreaming. He further taught courses in drama and Shakespeare and graduate courses on John Donne and the metaphysical poets.

Earning his undergraduate degree at Michigan State University and master's degree and doctorate at Duke University, he earned several fellowships while pursuing his degrees as well. Dr. Lein was greatly inspired by Canadian poet A. J. M. Smith.

Well known in his community as a talented artistic director of more than 45 years, concert organist, and composer, Dr. Lein's passion for music and the arts runs just as deep as his love for academia. Dr. Lein founded and has continued to serve as the director of the Lafayette Chamber Singers since 1972, with whom he produced two recordings--"Latin Music through the Ages" and "Yours Is the Kingdom: The Music of Channing Blickenstaff (recordings)." In 2011 he received a Recognition Award in honor of the 40th anniversary of the Lafayette Chamber Singers from the Indiana General Assembly.

A longtime member of the Modern Language Association, the American Choral Directors Association, the Phi Beta Kappa Society, Alpha Lambda Delta and the Golden Key International Honor Society, Dr. Lein has been showcased in every edition of Who's Who in America since 2010.
