Haltom City Museum Honors Man's Best Friend with "A Dog's Life" Exhibition Including "After Dinner Guests" Painting

DFW Elite Toy Museum Welcomes Furry Friends to Their Free Museum

"This all started as a hobby of mine, but as most people know, hobbies have a way of taking on a life of their own," says owner and toy collector Ron Sturgeon.

FORT WORTH, TX, August 16, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dog-lovers in need of a "cute fix" need to stop by the art exhibition "It's A Dog's Life," currently on display at DFW Elite Toy Museum.

For many out there, the only example of dog paintings they know is the iconic painting of dogs playing poker by Cassius Coolidge which could be found at any Kmart or Sears store in the 1950s and 1960s.

If that describes you, then you really need to head on down to DFW Elite Toy Museum at 5940 Eden in Haltom City and look at one of the finest displays of dog art found in the United States.

The exhibit, which features a large number of well-known paintings of dogs by celebrated American and European artists, has some dating back to pre-Victorian times. In addition, there are toys, collectables and antiques for you to gaze at.

The exhibit runs from January 15 through September 30 and it is free to the public (dogs are welcome).

This fine exhibit begins with a Victorian Period Collage, followed by a delightful vintage and antique toy display. Then comes a 1930's Store Window Tapper and it all concludes with the Lap of Luxury Display.

Museum owner and local entrepreneur, Ron Sturgeon, talks about his labor of love.

"This all started as a hobby of mine, but as most people know, hobbies have a way of taking on a life of their own. Pretty soon my hobby had outgrown my house and so I decided to make it all public so that everyone could enjoy it. And here we are!"

"After Dinner Guests" was painted by Louis-Eugene Lambert (1825-1900), a French painter famous for his animal paintings, in particular cats and dogs. So famous were his works at that time that he gained the nickname "Raphael of cats,", and his works can be found in famous museums such as the British Museum, the Luxembourg Museum, the Brooklyn Museum, and the Musee des Beaux Arts de Nantes.

Lambert's work is just one of many shown at the exhibit. Some of the other fine works on display include the following:
• "Why Don't You Take It" by Currier & Ives
• "Trapped" by Edwin Armfield
• "Coursing Salukis" by Cynthia Underwood
• "Study of Italian Greyhound" by Alexander Blackley
• "The Marquis of Huntley's Pair of Deerhounds" by Charles West Cope

ABOUT DFW ELITE TOY MUSEUM
The DFW Elite Toy Museum began as a hobby for owner Ron Sturgeon, but Sturgeon soon realized that hobbies of collectibles were meant to be shared with the public. Thus, began the museum, originally designed as a toy car museum but which soon branched out to include other collectible and antique toy displays. The museum is free to the public and, to reflect Ron's love of dogs, furry friends are always welcomed with open arms.
