Marijuana Fatal Crash Drivers Usually Drinking Alcohol. In 2016 in the US, 81% of Marijuana Positive Fatal Crash Drivers had Alcohol Present, and 26% were DUI
Nationally, marijuana positive fatal crash drivers are commonly 10% less than fatal crash DUI drivers (18.2% vs. 27.0%). However, in Colorado, marijuana positive drivers are nearly equal to DUI (28.4% vs.28.9%).
"The alcohol and auto insurance industry should not fear marijuana legalization, as marijuana legalization will not decrease their business," says researchers, Al Crancer and Phillip Drum, Pharm D.
SAN FRANCISCO, CA, July 10, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- In 2016 in the US, 81% of marijuana positive fatal crash drivers also had alcohol present, and 26% were DUI. In Colorado, one of the first recreational use marijuana states, 98% of marijuana positive fatal drivers were drinking, and 36% were DUI along with marijuana positivity.
Nationally, marijuana positive fatal crash drivers are commonly 10% less than fatal crashes with DUI drivers (18.2% vs. 27.0%). However, in Colorado, which approved recreational marijuana in 2012, marijuana positive fatal crash drivers are nearly equivalent to DUI fatal crash drivers (28.4% vs. 28.9%) were marijuana positive of those tested for drugs.
