With more than 45 years of industry experience, Dr. Scaling has worked as the founder and president for the Women's Health Associates of Wyoming since 2001, and in private practice with a focus in obstetrics, gynecology, and infertility since 1978. He has served on the medical staff for the Wyoming Medical Center since 1978, also working as medical staff secretary from 1989 to 1991, vice chief of staff from 1991 to 1993, chief of staff from 1993 to 1995, and chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology from 1981 to 1983, 1986 to 1988, and 2001 to 2005. Prior to these appointments, he held multiple positions at the Baylor College of Medicine, including as chief resident of obstetrics and gynecology from 1977 to 1978, resident in obstetrics-gynecology from 1975 to 1978, and OB-GYN resident in the Baylor College of Medicine Medical Center from 1975 to 1978. Dr. Scaling began his career as an intern at the Health Sciences Center with LSU Health Shreveport in 1971.

Before embarking on his professional path, Dr. Scaling pursued an education at the University of New Mexico, earning a Bachelor of Science in 1967. He concluded his studies at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in 1971, graduating with a Doctor of Medicine. Following these accomplishments, he completed service with the U.S. Air Force, rising to the rank of Major from 1972 and 1975 and enlisting in the U.S. Air Force Reserves from 1975 to 1977. Additionally, Dr. Scaling is a diplomate of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Beyond his responsibilities within the field, Dr. Scaling has participated in numerous endeavors in his professional circles. He contributed to Wyoming State Board of Medical Examiners as president from 1990 to 1992 and vice president from 1984 to 1992. Furthermore, he held the role of Medical Director at Casper Family-Centered League Lamaze Prepared Childbirth from 1980 to 1984, Christ-Centered Childbirth from 1984 to 1987, The Caring Center Inc. from 1986 to 1990, and the PMS Clinic at the Wyoming Medical Center from 1987 to 1990. A presenter in his field, Dr. Scaling found success with his with the Family Medicine Residency Program at the University of Wyoming as clinical assistant professor and instructor since 1978. He has been on the Board of Directors for the Wyoming Community Health Care Alliance in 1997, on the Board of Directors for Christian Solidarity Worldwide-USA from 1997 to 2000, and on the Board of Directors for the Casper Children's Chorale from 1981 to 1982, for which he also served as vice president. He has also excelled on the Advisory Board for the Caring Center Inc. since 2001 and Highland Park Community Church from 1994 to 1995. Likewise, Dr. Scaling was involved with the Little Dilly Golf Tournament Committee for Casper Country Club from 1994 to 1996 as well as the Healing Place Counseling Center.

In addition to his primary trade, Dr. Scaling remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to his areas of expertise. He has been a member of the American Association of Pro-Life Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the American College of Physician Executives, the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists, the Society of Reproductive Surgeons, and the Central Association of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. He was also active with the Natrona County Medical Society, the Wyoming State Medical Society, the Alaska Professional Hunters Association, the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and Alpha Omega Alpha. He has maintained involvement as a lifetime member of the Foundation of North America Wild Sheep, the Bass Anglers Sportsman Society, the North America Hunting Club, the Boone and Crockett Club and the Safari Club International. In 1997, Dr. Scaling was associated with the National Advisory Council for the American Society for Reproductive Medicine.

In light of his exceptional undertakings, Dr. Scaling has accrued several accolades throughout his impressive career. He was honored as a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology and a Fellow of the American Fertility Society. He was recognized as a National Science Foundation Summer Scholar at New Mexico Highlands University in 1962 and among America's Top Obstetricians and Gynecologists by the Consumers Research Council of America from 2002 to2003 and from 2007 to 2014. Dr. Scaling was selected for inclusion in many editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in the West, and Who's Who in the World.
