Carol Barnett Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Ms. Barnett has been endorsed by Marquis Who's Who as a leader in the music industry

MINNEAPOLIS, MN, July 16, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Carol Barnett with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Ms. Barnett celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

A composer, performer and consumer of music, Ms. Barnett was exposed to music at a very young age. As the daughter of a piano teacher, Ms. Barnett took lessons from her father at home. Growing up in a small town with little else to do, she also played the violin and the flute. As part of her lessons, she would compose music based on lines of poetry given to her by her father, who would then write down the notes that she played. Ms. Barnett found that music composition came naturally to her and decided to pursue the field professionally. After obtaining a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts from the University of Minnesota, Ms. Barnett went on to become a composer in residence with the Dale Warland Singers in St. Paul, MN, a visiting composer at Gordon College in Wenham, MA, and later, an adjunct instructor at Augsburg College in Minneapolis.

Throughout her career, Ms. Barnett has composed various music pieces including a chamber opera and works for music theater, chorus, concert band, chamber ensembles and orchestra. Ms. Barnett has also served on the boards of several professional organizations including the Music in the Park Series in St. Paul, the American Composers Forum and the Minnesota Composers Forum. Today, she maintains affiliations with the American Federation of Musicians, the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, Pi Kappa Lambda and Sigma Alpha Iota.

Civically, Ms. Barnett has volunteered her time playing in community orchestras and mentoring with the American Composers Forum and VocalEssence. Ms. Barnett's musical accomplishments have afforded her the opportunity to become a composer fellow with the McKnight Foundation, as well as a resident fellow with the Camargo Foundation. In addition, she participated in a seven-week tour to the Soviet Union while in the University of Minnesota Concert Band Ensemble. She cites her greatest career achievement as having her piece, "The World Beloved: A Bluegrass Mass," performed at Carnegie Hall three times.

Ms. Barnett's many professional successes in the musical field were first shaped by her father, who served as her mentor as well as her first teacher. She was also mentored by her band director at the University of Minnesota, Frank Bencriscutto, and her composition professor, Dominick Argento. Ms. Barnett also developed a mentorship with Theofanis Stavrou, a Russian studies professor who contributed to her interests in Russian music.

In recognition of outstanding contributions to her profession and the Marquis Who's Who community, Carol Barnett has been featured on the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement website. Please visit www.ltachievers.com for more information about this honor.
