With more than 45 years of industry experience to his credit, Dr. Elmaleh has worked at AZTherapies Inc. as a founder, director, chief executive officer and chief scientific advisor since 2011 and an associate professor of radiology at the Gordon Center for Medical Imaging for Harvard Medical School since 1984. Previously, he served FluoroPharma Inc. as founder, director and Scientific Advisory Board member from 2004 to 2012, Molecular Insight Pharmaceuticals, Inc. as chairman, director and scientific founder from 1997 to 2002, Mersana Therapeutics as founder, director and Scientific Advisory Board member from 2000 to 2001, Puretech Ventures LLC as a Scientific Advisory Board member in 2000, and IGG International as a Scientific Advisory Board member from 1995 to 2000. Dr. Elmaleh has been additionally associated with the National Institutes of Health as a study section member 1999-2009, a U.S. Biosystems as a director for 1998, and Harvard Medical School as an assistant professor of radiology from 1981.

Prior to these appointments, Dr. Elmaleh held multiple positions in the Department of Radiology for Massachusetts General Hospital as director of contrast media chemistry in the Division of Radiological Sciences in 1984, assistant chemist from 1978 to 1980, associate radiochemist in the Physics Research Laboratory in 1980, and an assistant in chemistry from 1976 to 1978. Likewise, he was a research member for Harvard–MIT Program of Health Sciences and Technology in 1978 and a research associate for the Department of Medicinal Chemistry and Pharmacology in the College of Pharmacy and Allied Health Professions at Northeastern University from 1975 to 1976. Dr. Elmaleh began his career as an instructor in the Casali Institute of Applied Chemistry and assistant to the director at Hebrew University of Jerusalem from 1971 to 1973.

Before embarking on his professional path, Dr. Elmaleh pursued an education at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, earning a Bachelor of Science in chemistry and physics in 1965. He continued his academic efforts with a Master of Science in organic chemistry in 1967 at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Dr. Elmaleh concluded his studies at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in 1971, graduating with a Doctor of Philosophy in organic chemistry.

Beyond his responsibilities within the field, Dr. Elmaleh has participated in numerous endeavors outside of his professional circles. He is renowned as a molecular imaging expert and inventor, holding 116 patents including those for radiopharmaceutical drugs in clinical trials and advanced imaging compounds to improve the speed and effectiveness of cardiovascular disease diagnosis. Furthermore, he found success with his written works more than 100 articles to such esteemed publications of the Journal of Biological Chemistry, the Journal of Surgical Research, the Journal of Biomedicine and Biotechnology, the International Journal of Cardiology and the Journal of Medicinal Chemistry. In addition to his primary trade, Dr. Elmaleh has maintained involvement with the Society of Nuclear Medicine, the American Chemical Society and American Association for the Advancement of Science.
