Kenneth Hermsen, DDS, Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Since 2006, Dr. Hermsen has been serving as a professor of endodontics at Creighton University School of Dentistry, having previously been employed as an associate professor since 1977. With more than 40 years of clinical experience, he also maintained a private practice for 16 years within the field of endodontics. Likewise, Dr. Hermsen was an endodontist at Heartland Endodontic Specialists from 1990 to 2006.

Alongside his primary endeavors, Dr. Hermsen has been a forensic dental consultant for Eppley Airport Fire and Rescue since 2004, co-chairperson of the Mass Fatality Response Subcommittee with the Omaha Metro Medical Response Systems since 2003, a leader of the Nebraska Forensic Dental Identification Team since 2002, a forensic odonatologist for the Region 7 Disaster Mortuary Operational Response Team since 1996, and a forensic dental consultant for the Douglas and Sarpy County Coroner's Office. Locally, he previously served as a dental director and participating dentist for the Hope Medical Outreach Coalition, a dental representative for the Omaha Oral Health Collaborative, and a founding committee member of the Nebraska Wind Symphony. Dr. Hermsen has also assisted in the identification of the victims following the attack on the World Trade Center in 2001 and the victims of Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

To prepare for his illustrious career, Dr. Hermsen pursued a formal education at the University of Nebraska, earning a Bachelor of Science in chemistry in 1971. He subsequently attended the College of Dentistry at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in 1975, graduating with a Doctor of Dental Surgery. Soon thereafter, Dr. Hermsen returned to the university and earned a Master of Science and certification in endodontics in 1980.

In an effort to remain aware of recent developments within his industry, Dr. Hermsen maintains affiliation with several organizations, including the American Dental Association, the American Society of Forensic Odontology, the American Academy of Forensic Sciences, and the Nebraska Association of Endodontists, where he served as president from 1991 to 1992. In addition, he held the role of president of the Nebraska Dental Association in 2012 and the Omaha District Dental Society from 1995 to 1996.

In light of his exceptional accomplishments in dentistry, Dr. Hermsen has accrued several accolades throughout his career. A Fellow of the American College of Dentists, he was elected to the Nebraska Dental Association Hall of Fame in 2008. In addition, Dr. Hermsen was the recipient of the Outstanding Teacher Award from the Creighton University School of Dentistry in 1979, 1980, 1983, and 1984, as well as the Champion of Hope Award from the Hope Medical Outreach Coalition in 2002.

Married to Linda Kay Wilson since 1970, Dr. Hermsen is the proud father of two children, a commercial real estate appraiser and an endodontist, and four grandchildren. He enjoys fly fishing, riding motorcycles and reading in his spare time.
