Peter Lawson-Johnston Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

    PRINCETON, NJ, August 03, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Peter Lawson-Johnston with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Mr. Lawson-Johnston celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. With more than 50 years of industry experience to his credit, Mr. Lawson-Johnston is currently retired, having most recently worked as director of the Feldspar Corporation, a subsidiary of the Zemex Corporation, from 1959 to 2003. During this time, he served the Zemex Corporation as chairman of the board of directors for the Feldspar Corporation from 1972 to 1981, chairman from 1975 to 2003, president from 1975 to 1976, vice chairman from 1972 to 1975, vice president from 1966 to 1972, vice president of sales for the Feldspar Corporation from 1961 to 1966, and sales manager for the Feldspar Corporation from 1956 to 1960. Previously, he held the position of public information director for the Maryland Civil Defense Agency from 1954 to 1956 and executive director for the Maryland Classified Employees Association from 1953 to 1954. Mr. Lawson-Johnston began his career as a reporter and yachting editor for the Baltimore Sun from 1951 to 1953.

Before embarking on his professional path, Mr. Lawson-Johnston pursued an education at the Lawrenceville School, graduating in 1945. Following this accomplishment, he completed service in the infantry with the United States Army from 1945 to 1947. Mr. Lawson-Johnston concluded his studies at the University of Virginia in 1951, graduating with honors.

Beyond his responsibilities within the field, Mr. Lawson-Johnston has participated in numerous endeavors outside of his professional circles. He has contributed to the Fralin Museum of Art at the University of Virginia as an advisory board member from 1997 to 2005, chairman from 1997 to 2005, and chairman emeritus since 2005. Mr. Lawson-Johnston has held the role of board director for National Review, Inc., from 1986 to 2011, chairman of the Anglo Energy Company, Inc., from 1973 to 1986, chairman for Nabors Industries, director of the MacGraw Hill Company, and both president and board director for Elgerbar Corporation.

Mr. Lawson-Johnston found success with his written works as well, having authored "Growing Up Guggenheim: A Personal History of a Family Enterprise" in 2005. He was further associated with the Saint Elmo Foundation as a trustee from 1996 to 2005 and trustee emeritus since 2005. Likewise, Mr. Lawson-Johnston excelled with the Lawrenceville School as a trustee from 1977 to 1999, president from 1990 to 1997, and trustee emeritus since 1999.

Mr. Lawson-Johnston has held several posts with the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation, such as trustee in 1964, vice president of business administration from 1965 to 1969, president from 1969 to 1995, chairman from 1995 to 1998, and honorary chairman since 1998. In 2011, he was recognized as a president emeritus by the Peggy Guggenheim Collection. A past member of the Guggenheim Brothers from 1962 to 1970, Mr. Lawson-Johnston has been the director of the Harry Frank Guggenheim Foundation since 1968, chairman of the Harry Frank Guggenheim Foundation since 1971, and senior partner for the Guggenheim Brothers since 1971.

In addition to his primary trade, Mr. Lawson-Johnston remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to his areas of expertise. He has maintained involvement with the Pilgrims of the United States, the Carolina Plantation Society, the American Seniors Golf Association and the Century Association. He is active with the Edgartown Yacht Club, the Edgartown Reading Room, the Bedens Brook Club the Pretty Book Tennis Club, The Links Club, the Seminole Golf Club, the Jupiter Island Club, the Brook, the Hobe Sound Yacht Club, and the Yeamans Hall Club.

In light of his exceptional undertakings, Mr. Lawson-Johnston has accrued several accolades throughout his impressive career. He was presented with the Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney Award for Outstanding Patronage of the Arts from the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in 1986, the Ellis Island Medal of Honor from the National Ethnic Coalition of Organizations in 1993, and the Lawrenceville Medal from the Lawrenceville School in 1997. Mr. Lawson-Johnston was selected for inclusion in multiple editions of Who's Who Among Human Services Professionals, Who's Who in Finance and Business, Who's Who in Finance and Industry, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the East and Who's Who in the World.
