PHILADELPHIA, PA, August 10, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Common automotive issues that arise when out on the road could be prevented with a bit of maintenance beforehand. That's why we at Delta Auto Protect packaged this checklist you can use before heading out on that road trip.

Check Your Brakes

Give your brake pads/rotors a once over and make sure they are in good shape. If your vehicle has the proper stopping power they may be up to snuff, but if you've noticed slowing down is difficult, make sure you get them looked at before a road trip.

Check/Change Motor Oil

Motor oil should be changed regularly, generally at intervals of every three months or three thousand miles, whichever comes first. If you're about to set out on a road trip it may be a good idea to get that oil change sooner as you will be using the vehicle much more than usual and this can keep vital components from overheating.

Check Wipers And Windshield Fluid

If you have driven in the rain recently, you should be able to tell whether or not your need to replace the windshield wipers. Being able to see in a downpour is crucial if you're going to be on the road for long stretches of time. And while you're going through the rest of this checklist, make sure you have enough windshield washer fluid and top that off.

Check Your Air Conditioning

Make sure your vehicle's air conditioning system is functioning properly. This is a must if you are road tripping in the summer. According to most owners manuals this should be done once a year to ensure Freon levels aren't low and it is operating properly. You should be able to tell right away if the AC system isn't blowing air hard enough/getting air cold enough.

Check Tires

If you reference your owners manual you can see the exact tire pressure you need to aim for. It is equally important to make sure all four tires are around that recommended pressure as that could lead to excessive wear, especially on longer trips. Take a good look at the tires and keep an eye out for any bulges or tears in the sidewalls and make sure the treading on the tires aren't excessively worn down. While you're at it, check the spare tire, inflate that to the proper PSI and make sure you have a jack and wrench should anything happen during the trip.

Check All Lights

Check that all of the lights on your automobile are functioning properly. Make sure you include your high beams in this instance, you may need to use them in more rural areas at night.

Using this checklist as well as driving safe, you can rest assured that you are doing the best you can to keep your car out of the shop and on the road!
