An accomplished listee, Mr. Gelwicks celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. Retired communications educator Mr. Gelwicks, who taught in academia for 25 years, concluded his career as an assistant professor at Western State Colorado University in 2005. Teaching on campus for 24 of those years, he also served as the general manager of the KWSB-FM radio station from 1987 to 2001 and as the chairman of the communications and sociology department from 1992 to 1999. During his tenure, Mr. Gelwicks taught both undergraduate and graduate level courses in organizational communications, public speaking, public relations, telecommunications, computer science and extension programs. He formerly spent one year as an adjunct professor at Florida State University, six years as a research consultant in Tallahassee, and one year as a decontamination trainee with Dow Chemical Company in Rocky Flats, CO.

A lifetime member of the National Communications Association, Mr. Gelwicks has also been very active in local politics. Recently selected to again serve as the mayor of the Gunnison City Council in Gunnison, CO, in May 2017, he formerly served in that capacity from 1993 to 1995. During the mid-1980s, he was a delegate for the People to People Speech Communications Leaders in the People's Republic of China, Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. Locally, he spent time as the president of the Gunnison chapter of the American Association of Retired Persons, chair of the Gunnison County Environmental Health Board, president of the Colorado Municipal League, chair of the Gunnison County Democratic Party and democratic state committeeman for Leon County, FL.

Active with The Sons of the American Legion, where Mr. Gelwicks has been a committeeman since 2011 and detachment financial officer since 2008, he is a previous two-time national executive committeeman and detachment commander. He served as National Vice Commander in 2009-2010. The Colorado organization named him Member of the Year in 2005 for his services and dedication. He is also a member of the Order of Elks.

The recipient of numerous awards, Mr. Gelwicks received a Lion Award from the Colorado Educational Association in 2002, was named Broadcast Citizen of the Year by the Colorado Broadcasters Association and was named Outstanding Senior Debater by the Colorado-Wyoming Forensics Association in 1971. Furthermore, he was named a fellow of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting from 1973 to 1974.

Mr. Gelwicks received his undergraduate degree at the University of Colorado in 1972 and Master of Arts in communication theory and research at Northern Illinois University in 1977, followed by postgraduate coursework in communications theory and research at Florida State University between 1973 and 1982. Throughout his journey, he has served as a contributing author and has authored and co-authored numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals in his areas of expertise. Today, he enjoys going fly fishing and hiking, as well as collecting stamps. He has been highlighted in every edition of Who's Who in America since 2007 and several editions of Who's Who in the World.
