Dr. Shinohara began her career as a faculty member in the Department of Pediatrics at Kochi Medical School in 1991. In 1997, she worked in the Department of Pediatrics of Showa Inan General Hospital for the Seishinkai Medical Corporation. Following this appointment, she joined the faculty in the Department of Pediatrics at Kusonose Hospital in 1998. In 1999, Dr. Shinohara became a faculty member in the Department of Pediatrics at Hosogi Hospital for the Zinseikai Medical Corporation.
After this opportunity, Dr. Shinohara held a position in the Department of Pediatrics of Kochi National Hospital in 2000, and in 2002, she contributed to the Department of Medical Subspecialties of the National Center for Child Health and Development in the allergy division. In 2003, she served the Department of Allergy and Immunology at the National Research Institute for Child Health and Development. Following this appointment, she held a post on the faculty in the Department of Pediatrics of Noichi Central Hospital for Koseikai Medical Corporation in 2004. During this time, Dr. Shinowara also maintained involvement as an assistant in the Department of Pediatrics at Kochi University.
Dr. Shinohara became a research fellow at the School of Pediatrics and Child Health at the University of Western Australia's Princess Margaret Hospital for Children in 2010. During that time, she also worked as a pediatrician for the Department of Pediatric Allergy and the Department of Clinical Research at Shimoshizu National Hospital, and from 2010 to 2012, she was on the faculty in the Department of Public Health at Chiba University. In 2014, she held the position of pediatrician in the Department of Pediatrics at Gifu University Hospital. After this opportunity, she was a pediatrician in the Department of Pediatrics at Ehime University Hospital in 2015. Dr. Shinohara has been assistant professor in the Department of Pediatrics at Juntendo University since 2018.
In addition to her career, Dr. Shinohara was active as a specialist physician for the Japanese Society of Allergology in 2003, during which time she held the same role for the Japanese Pediatric Society. She is also a frequent contributor of articles to professional journals. Some of her credits as a writer include co-author of "Clinical Studies on Cefozopran in Pediatrics" for the Japanese Journal of Antibiotics in 1994, co-author of "Nutrition During Pregnancy may be Associated with Allergic Diseases in Infants" for the Journal of Nutritional Science and Vitaminology in 2002, and co-author in "Fetal Tobacco Smoke Exposure in the Third Trimester of Pregnancy is Associated with Atopic Eczema/Dermatitis Syndrome in Infancy" for Pediatric Allergy, Immunology and Pulmonology in 2017, along with many others. Since 2017, Dr. Shinohara has been a reviewer for the Journal of Asthma.
Before embarking on her professional path, Dr. Shinohara received her Doctor of Medicine from Kochi Medical School in 1991 and her Doctor of Philosophy from Kochi Medical School in 1997. She also acquired her physician certification from the Japanese Pediatric Society in 1996 and her supervisory doctor certification from the Japanese Society of Allergology in 2004.
Dr. Shinohara was awarded the Late Breaking Abstract Award and Prize from the 29th European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology in 2010, and in 2012, she was named Highlighted Poster by the 63th American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology. She received the Best Presentation Award from the English section of the 64th Japanese Society of Allergology in 2015. In 2018, Dr. Shinohara was recipient of the Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research from the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science.
Dr. Shinohara is a member of the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, the Pediatric Rheumatology Association of Japan and the Japan Society for Clinical Immunology. She is also a member of the Japan Society for Human Genetics, the Japanese Society for Infectious Diseases and the Japanese Society of Pediatric Allergy and Clinical Immunology.
