For the past 50 years, Ms. German has excelled in the field of law. At the start of her career, she worked for the Mental Health Information Service, an agency under the aegis of the Appellate Division, First Department, New York State, protecting the rights of mentally ill persons.
During the course of her illustrious career, Ms. German has had the honor of representing an orphanage in Guatemala. She considers this case to be one of the highlights of her career. It all started with a "60 Minutes" program in which the orphanage director, she believed wrongfully, was accused of misbehavior. Based upon an allegation that the director has engaged in mail fraud, the United States commenced a foreclosure proceeding to seize funds that were donated to support the orphans. Ms. German had the honor of representing the corporation that ran the orphanage in an attempt to recover these funds. After the District Court ruled against the orphanage, she appealed to the Court of Appeals, Second Circuit, which reversed the ruling. Not only was the money returned, but costs, legal fees and interest were recovered as well.
Ms. German holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Pennsylvania, and a Juris Doctor from New York University School of Law. During the course of her career, she has co-authored "Mental Illness, Due Process and the Acquitted Defendant" and has been a contributing author to Bioethics and Human Rights. Ms. German has further penned articles in professional journals in the field of psychiatry and law.
Ms. German was honored with the Golden Anniversary Award by the Suffolk County Bar Association celebrating fifty years of practice. She has been featured in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Law, Who's Who in the East, and Who's Who in the World.
