A tenured investment banker and nonprofit director who has devoted 45 years to his field, Mr. Thaler is currently the director of Caribbean Restaurants, Inc. (Burger King of Puerto Rico), since 2017, managing partner of Lieutenant Island Partners LLC since 2008, and member of the review board for Branford Castle and Company since 2016. He is the former director of Singer Sewing Machine and Gordon Brothers, Inc., former vice chairman of investment banking at Deutsche Bank Securities, former managing director of investment banking at Lehman Brothers, and a former banker at the Bank of Boston in both Boston, MA, and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Entering academia in 2007, Mr. Thaler has been teaching as a pro bono adjunct professor of finance at Morehouse College, where he has also been serving as the board treasurer, an executive committee member and a trustee since 2012.
Throughout his career, Mr. Thaler has been instrumental in helping many high achieving African Americans attain jobs on Wall Street. Growing up in a household with a father who was very involved with civil rights, Mr. Thaler says that there still aren't enough African Americans working in corporate positions in New York. Known for his work as vice chairman for the Upper Manhattan Empowerment Zone between 2007 and 2017 as well, the organization facilitates economic development of all communities in Upper Manhattan through job creation, strategic investments and small business assistance.
A trustee of the Plimoth Plantation in Plymouth, MA, since 1995 and board president of the Daily Princetonian from 2004 to 2017, Mr. Thaler enjoys being involved in his local community. He has also been active with his alma mater as a trustee of the Daily Princetonian since 1989 and as a former class agent and special gifts solicitor for Princeton University Annual Giving for many years. He is a member of the Massachusetts Society of Mayflower Descendants, the Harvard Club of New York, the University Cottage Club, Siwanoy Country Club, Somerset Club, and the American Antiquarian Society, among other organizations.
Mr. Thaler earned a Bachelor of Arts in American political history, cum laude, at Princeton University in 1973 and a Master of Business Administration at Harvard University in 1978. He has been included in nearly 60 editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the World, Who's Who in the East, Who's Who in Finance and Business and Who's Who in Finance and Industry.
