With more than 50 years of experience, Dr. Robboy has worked as a gynecologist in his private practice, Merle S. Robboy, MD, A Professional Corporation, since 1972, as well as on active staff at Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian for 46 years. He previously was on courtesy staff for Fountain Valley Regional Hospital and Medical Center since 2003. Prior to these appointments, he held the positions of contract physician for Kaiser Permanente Hospital from 2003 to 2014, interim director of family planning services for Planned Parenthood Federation of America, and a contract physician for Planned Parenthood Federation of America from 1997 to 2012. Previously, he served University of California, Irvine as a clinical associate professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology since 1972 to 2003, City of Hope as a resident in general and gynecologic surgery in 1972, and UCLA as a resident in the Center for Health Sciences from 1968 to 1972. Dr. Robboy began his career as a rotating intern in the U.S. Public Health Service Hospital from 1965 to 1966.

Before embarking on his professional path, Dr. Robboy pursued an education at Case Western Reserve University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in 1961. He concluded his studies in 1965 at The Ohio State University, graduating from the College of Medicine with a Doctor of Medicine. Following these accomplishments, Dr. Robboy was certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Beyond his responsibilities within the field, Dr. Robboy has participated in numerous endeavors in his professional circles. He has held the role of volunteer in gynecological services for the SOS Clinic in 1976. From 1966 to 1968, he completed service with the U.S. Public Health Service, rising to the rank of Lieutenant Commander prior to his honorable discharge. Dr. Robboy found success with his written works as well, having authored articles for such esteemed publications as the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition and Obstetrics-Gynecology.

In addition to his primary trade, Dr. Robboy remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to his areas of expertise. He maintained involvement with the Orange Country Obstetrical and Gynecological Society in multiple capacities, including as president from 1983 to 1984, vice president from 1982 to 1983, secretary from 1981 to 1982, and treasurer from 1980 to 1981. Likewise, he was a member of the American Fertility Society, the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists, the Pacific Coast Obstetrical and Gynecological Society, and the American Orchid Society. Dr. Robboy was also active with the Newport Harbor Orchid Society as a lifetime member and the American Dahlia Society as a judge.

In light of his exceptional undertakings, Dr. Robboy has accrued several accolades and honors throughout his impressive career. He has been recognized as a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Looking towards the future, Dr. Robboy hopes to retire from active professional efforts, having become slightly disillusioned by the field due to the growing difficulties and shifting economic priorities of his industry.
