Amberg Jr. with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Mr. Amberg celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. Mr. Amberg was inspired to become a newspaper executive by his father, who set a lasting example in the same profession. As a qualified professional, Mr. Amberg holds a Bachelor of Arts from Harvard University and received an honorary doctorate from Troy University. He began his career as a management trainee with Staten Island Advance in New York. With exceptional management and leadership skills, he has held positions such as editor, general manager, president of publications, associate publisher and publisher. He was also a Paul Harris Fellow of the Rotary Club. Throughout his career, Mr. Amberg was proud of what he was able to accomplish by using the newspaper for good in his community. Most notably, while Mr. Amberg served as the editor of the Illinois edition of the St. Louis Democrat, he was responsible for creating a new section in the paper. In addition, while he was a publisher, his publication won a Pulitzer Prize for local reporting and numerous other national journalism awards.

Civically, Mr. Amberg volunteered his time to various organizations in his community, including serving as chairman of the United Way campaign in Montgomery, AL, president of the Conway Day School in St. Louis, MO, on the board of directors of the Alabama Shakespeare Festival, and in many other locally held positions. He also served as a Captain in the U.S. Navy Reserve, including two years of active duty. During his military service, he commanded five reserve units and attended three service colleges.

For his achievements in the field, Mr. Amberg has received many awards and honors from industry and community institutions. Most recently, he received the National Silver Bell Award from the Advertising Council, the First CMR Spotlight Award from the Center for Military Readiness, and the Lifetime Philanthropy Award from the Central Alabama chapter of the National Society of Fund Raising Executives. Today, in order to remain aware of developments in his professional and local communities, Mr. Amberg holds leadership roles with the Central Alabama chapter of the American Red Cross, the Montgomery Area Council on Aging, the Interstate Character Council, the Alabama World Affairs Council, the Montgomery Symphony Association, the New Beginnings Education Center, One Montgomery, and the Montgomery County Department of Human Resources.
