Dr. Beaumont Hagebak ascended within the U.S. Public Health Service from a low level mental health consultant to the acting regional health administrator of the entire southern region.

Dr. Hagebak pursued a career in psychology after serving in the U.S. Army. Although he planned to become a commercial artist once he completed high school, he was inspired by teachers he met in the Army to become an educator. After his military service, he obtained a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts from the University of Northern Iowa. He then began working as a high school guidance counselor, which prompted him to further his education by pursuing a Doctor of Education from Arizona State University. He then became a licensed applied psychologist and served as an associate professor and director of psychology services at Minnesota State University, Mankato. Specializing in assessment and counseling therapies with adolescents and young adults, Dr. Hagebak has held positions throughout his career such as dean of student affairs, director of a mental health center, regional administrator, chief clinical manager, and graduate and undergraduate educator. Dr. Hagebak considers the highlight of his accomplished career as ascending within the U.S. Public Health Service from a low level mental health consultant to the acting regional health administrator of the entire southern region, which included eight states.
Outside of his practical work in the field, Dr. Hagebak has authored several industry texts, including "The Dropout and Social Concern" in 1964, "Coordination: Win and CETA" in 1978, "Coordination: Health Planning and Community Mental Health" in 1979, and "Getting Local Agencies to Cooperate: A Grass Roots Primer for Your Community" in 1982, in addition to several book chapters in the field and books on his family genealogy. He has also served as the editor of state and national government administration publications. Civically, he has served as a member of the Metro Atlanta Council of Alcohol and Drugs, a member of the steering committee of the Georgia Network for Community Human Services, the chair of the membership council of the Unitarian-Universalist Congregation of Atlanta, and on the board of directors of the HUB Counseling Center.
For his accomplishments in the field, Dr. Hagebak has received honors and recognition from various industry organizations. Most notably, he received the Secretary's Award for Distinguished Service from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and the Federal Disaster Service Award and the National Disaster Medical System Award for displaying exemplary leadership and dedication during Hurricane Andrew in Southern Florida. In addition, for his article, "The Forgiveness Factor: Taking the Risk out of Efforts to Integrate the Human Services," he received the Louis Brownlow Award for the best professional journal article published in 1983.
As a dedicated and active member of his community, Dr. Hagebak has been an elected chairperson, president, secretary, and board member of several organizations and public agencies such as the American Society for Public Administration, the School of Home Economics at Auburn University, and the Wisconsin State Drug Abuse Advisory Commission, among others. In order to remain alert of developments in his field, he also maintains affiliation with the American Psychological Association. Dr. Hagebak, now 82, lives alone in the north Georgia mountains in an old log home with an old black cat. He is writing two books, one of which has now been accepted for publication. He also does watercolor portraits and has earned first place ribbons in several shows in the Atlanta area. He is the father of three sons, and "Poppa" to five granddaughters and five great-grandchildren.
