Interested in writing from a young age, she began writing professionally while working as the director of alumni and public relations at North Carolina
Wesleyan College, where she remained from 1975 to 1977. Also devoting time to freelance editing, she soon found a publisher for her first book and immediately began work on her second, confident in her literary career.
Attributing her success to her supportive family and penchant for creative imagining, Ms. Casey has authored numerous books, including "The Coach's Wife," "The FIG Mystery Series," "Shyla's Initiative," "Just Like Family," "The Gospel According to Prissy," and "Kathryn Kelly: The Moll behind Machine Gun Kelly", among other genre-spanning works. Notably, she recently signed a movie contract for "Assata Shakur: A 20th Century Escaped Slave," a book which was published in 2017.
Demonstrating familiarity and expertise within the publishing industry, Ms. Casey has been an editorial consultant and literary agent since 1986, and established The Barbara Casey Agency in 1995. Through her literary agency, she devotes her time to a clientele that encompasses novelists, historians, politicians and journalists and works that encompass a wide range of subject matter and intended demographics.
Due to her accomplishments within her field, Ms. Casey received the Most Notable Book Award in 2017 and was recognized with Independent Publisher Book Awards in 2014, 2015 and 2016. She was also considered for a Pulitzer nomination for "House of Kane" in 2007. In addition to her work in writing and publishing, Ms. Casey has appeared as a guest speaker, panelist and judge for numerous events in her professional circuit. Interested in remaining aware of professional developments, she maintains involvement with Florida Freelance Writers Association, Poets of the Palm Beaches, Book Group of South Florida, the Florida Writers Association and the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators, for whom she was the Florida regional advisor from 1991 through 2003.
