Criss E. Cannady Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Criss E. Cannady has won the Academy of American Poets Prize from California State Northridge and the Margaret Sterling Memorial award from the University of Arizona.

    PASO ROBLES, CA, September 15, 2018 — Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Criss E. Cannady with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Ms. Cannady celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. Ms. Cannady has been a business analyst and project manager for Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) in California for the past 11 years. Taken on board in 2007, the investor-owned utility with publicly traded stock is headquartered in San Francisco, CA. The company provides natural gas and electric service to approximately 16 million people throughout a 70,000 square mile service area. For the last 11 years, she has held a nuclear clearance.

She was a senior learning products engineer for Hewlett-Packard Company, in the Non-Stop Server division in Cupertino, CA, from 1996 to December 2005. Before that, she spent time in Colorado as a preferred trainer, writer, and editing consultant with MC & Associates, Inc., for the National Science Foundation, the University of Colorado Continuing Education Program, Phillips Magnetic Storage, Hewlett-Packard Company in Colorado Springs, and Telos Consulting, among other companies. In Los Angeles, she was the Director of Communications for the American Society for Training and Development; in Arizona, she was the Director of Creative Writing and remedial English at Eastern Arizona College for three years while being the regional coordinator for the Arizona Poets in the Schools Program. At Eastern Arizona College, she helped establish the writing lab for students, the first of its kind in eastern Arizona. Furthermore, Ms. Cannady was a guest speaker and continuing education instructor at numerous universities, libraries, state and junior colleges throughout her career. She was also the poet-in-residence for the Poetry in the Schools Program in a Los Angeles school district in 1980.

Some of Ms. Cannady's works have included authoring "For Such a Time as This (a verse play put up at the Le Pensee Theatre in Seattle)," a chapbook Lakes and Legacies, and articles "Back to Days of Childhood" and "Revision Process for Remedial Writers." She was an editor, researcher, and one of many translators of Leon Felipe: The Last Troubadour in 1980; she was also an editor for the American Society for Training and Development's publications from 1982 to 1983; poetry was included in Intro 7, Academy of American Poets and Prizes 1969-72, "Black Warrior Review," "Colorado Review," "Kayak," "Southern Poetry Review," "Cincinnati Poetry Review," the nationwide anthology, Poet Dreaming the Artist's House, and the special edition of Arizona poets, "Gramercy Review," among others. She was selected by the Library Journal as one of the ten best books of the year from small presses. She has been the recipient of several Arizona travel grants for leading writing workshops for young adults.

Ms. Cannady has devoted time as a consultant for the San Luis Obispo Arts Council and the Arizona Arts Commission. She has been a longtime member of many professional organizations and helped found the local chapter in Colorado Springs for the Society of Technical Communication. She has belonged to the Society of Technical Communication, American Society for Training and Development, International Association of Business Communicators, and the Project Management Institute. Ms. Cannady also received several travel and study fellowships from the Arizona Arts and Humanities Commission writer's conferences. She was featured in Granger's Index of Poetry for her "Sunlight in a Cafeteria" and "In the Sitting Room of the Opera." She was selected as one of four artists chosen to represent the federally funded program Arts in Arizona Towns, and was featured in the television monthly program "Eyewitness Arizona." She has been a three-time nominee for the Pushcart Prize in Poetry. She has won the Academy of American Poets Prize from California State Northridge and the Margaret Sterling Memorial award from the University of Arizona.

Her writings on writing and revision have also appeared or have been cited in various educational periodicals and technical conference presentations.

She has been included in Who's Who in the West, Who's Who of Emerging Leaders in America and Who's Who of American Women. Ms. Cannady holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of California and a Master of Fine Arts in writing from the University of Arizona and holds a lifetime teaching certificate in Arizona and a train-the-trainer certification.
