Las Vegas Law Firm Announces Criminal Justice Essay Contest

Adras & Altig focuses needed attention on issue of cyberbullying

LAS VEGAS, NV, September 25, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The attorneys at Adras & Altig are proud to announce our first annual Criminal Justice Essay Contest to raise awareness of the issue of cyberbullying and to assist students with college expenses.

Three students selected as winners of the essay contest will receive prizes of $1,500, $750 and $500 from Adras & Altig to be used for education-related expenses.

Many young people spend hours each day interacting through Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, Instagram and other platforms. The more active a young person is online, the more likely he or she is to be harassed. Cyberbullying involves sending, posting or sharing negative personal information, false information or mean-spirited comments about another person online. About 20 percent of students experience cyberbullying, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

The Essay Contest offers students an opportunity to help increase awareness of this issue by writing an essay discussing what steps social media companies can take to help curb cyberbullying and to hold accountable those who target others for online harassment. It is always best when proactive steps can be taken to address unwanted behaviors and keep people from entering the criminal justice system.

The contest is open to juniors and seniors in high school as well as students enrolled in two-year and four-year colleges and universities and graduate school programs throughout the United States. Applicants who are 17 years old or younger will need to provide parental consent to enter. The deadline for entering the contest is Dec. 1, 2018.

Adras & Altig will select three winning essays and announce the winners on or about Dec. 21. Click on the link for additional information about how to enter the contest.
