Pamela Jean Estes Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Since 2016, Ms. Pamela Jean Estes has been a senior pastor at First United Methodist Church in Magnolia, Ark.

Since 2016, Ms. Estes has been a senior pastor at First United Methodist Church in Magnolia, Ark. A former teacher and librarian during the early part of her career, she first entered religious services in 1987 as an associate pastor at the Union Congregational Church in East Walpole, Mass. She has since pastored at multiple other churches across Arkansas, including the First United Methodist Church in Stamps and Little Rock, Grand Avenue United Methodist Church in Hot Springs and Lakeside Methodist Church in Pine Bluff. Ms. Estes has also been a longtime private musician since 1970.

Ms. Estes served as a co-chair on the sexual harassment task force with The Little Rock Conference of The United Methodist Church, was an Arkansas delegate with the White House Conference on Libraries and chair of the Commission on the Status and Role of Women. A member of the Arkansas Conference Board of Ordained Ministry since 2010, she has served as chair since 2015 and as trustee at Hendrix College from 2004 to 2010 and since 2012 to the present. A longtime member of multiple professional organizations, including the American Library Association.

The founder of the Thayer chapter of the Missouri Education Association, Ms. Estes was the president and recording secretary of P.E.O. Sisterhood, among other organizations. Furthermore, she is also a longtime member of several Sigma Alpha Iota, and various other clubs. Certified to teach English and French for grades 7-12 and instrumental music for grades K-12 in Missouri, Ms. Estes is also certified to teach English for grades 7-12, instrumental music and gifted and talented for grades K-12, is certified to teach driver's education and is certified in secondary school administration in Arkansas.

Explaining that she had "received a call to preach from God," Ms. Estes said that all the work she did prior to entering religious services is what prepared her 30-plus year career as a pastor. Some of the most amazing parts of her career in religious services, she noted, have included performing baptisms, weddings, and funerals. Becoming an ordained deacon in the Little Rock Conference in 1991, she then became an ordained elder in 1991. Ms. Estes even had the opportunity to confirm her niece and nephew on one Easter Sunday, which was an honor.

Ms. Estes recently received the Jim Beal Barnabas Award from the Arkansas Board of Ordained Ministry in 2017. She has also been recognized was a Paul Harris Fellow in 2002 and 2017 and a Bishop Oxnam Scholar through Boston University School of Theology between 1985 and 1988. Ms. Estes has been cited in several editions of Who's Who in American Women as well.

Highly educated, Ms. Estes first earned a Bachelor of Arts in English and Religion, cum laude, and a Bachelor of Arts in music education, cum laude, at Ouachita University in 1974. She then received a Master of Music Education at Ouachita University in 1976, a Master of Library and Information Science at George Peabody College for Teachers of Vanderbilt University in 1983, followed by a Master of Divinity in 1988 and Master of Sacred Theology in 1989 at Boston University School of Theology. She also completed coursework at Henderson State University, the Institute Internationale d'etudes Francais of the University of Strasbourg, Frances, Southeast Missouri State University and Arkansas State University. She completed an internship at the Christ Church (UMC) in Wellesley, Mass. and the Riverside Psychiatric Hospital, also in Wellesley, from 1986 to 1987. Moreover, Ms. Estes has been involved with continued coursework and preaching workshops in recent years.
