Mr. Stille began his career as a math teacher with Spring Lake Public Schools from 1962 to 1966. After this opportunity, he was a market representative and manager with IBM from 1966 to 1992. During this time, he became mayor of Ferrysburg, Michigan from 1972 to 1991. From 1993 to 1994, he served as a representative assistant whip and a member of the Michigan House of Representatives of the 89th district in Lansing. He was a member of the Michigan Senate for the 32nd district in Lansing from 1995 until 2002 and has been supervisor of Crockery Township, Michigan since 2004. Stille is currently in his 41st year of public office, which includes 10 years of service as mayor, 7 years of service as a councilman of the city of Ferrysburg and 10 years of service as legislator, plus the 14 years as Crockery Township supervisor which continues currently.

Prior to embarking on his professional path, Mr. Stille earned his Bachelor of Science from Michigan State University in East Lansing in 1961. In addition to his career, he has held the role of chair of the regularity subcommittee and the transportation subcommittee from 1993 to 1994. He was also a member of the higher education committee and the general government subcommittee from 1993 to 1994. During his career, Mr. Stille was responsible for the rewriting of the school code and the uniform building code in Michigan.

During all of these years, Mr. Stille fulfilled the role of a high school and college sports official. Starting in 1959 as a registered football, baseball and basketball referee, he completed 41 years of high school basketball officiating, 10 years of baseball umpiring and is currently completing his 60th year of football officiating. Mixed in with this was 35 years of college football and basketball officiating. He was assigned to work two MHSAA football final championships and six different NCAA Division II playoff games.

Mr. Stille has been associated with the American Legislative Exchange Council, the Michigan Chamber of Commerce, the consolidation task force for Spring Lake, the Ferrysburg Planning Commission, the Northwest Ottawa County Chamber Foundation and the Ottawa County Republicans. He is also a member of the Michigan High School Athletic Association, Rotary International and Kiwanis International. He has been named Legislator of the Year, by a number of organizations and was recognized as a Friend of Autism by the Grand Valley State University Autism Education Center in Allendale, Michigan. Mr. Stille has previously been selected for inclusion in multiple editions of Who's Who in the Midwest and Who's Who in American Politics.
