Elizabeth E. Gish Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

    SALISBURY, NC, October 16, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Elizabeth E. Gish with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Mrs. Gish celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. Mrs. Gish, a Registered Nurse, is a 1964 graduate of the School of Nursing at North Carolina Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, NC, where she was staff nurse from 1964-1965. In 2014 she compiled and wrote RECAP ~ Memories and Reflections of the 1964 Graduating Class of Student Nurses who attended NC Baptist Hospital School of Nursing Diploma Program. From 1965-1967 she was Medical Unit Staff Nurse at the University of Oregon Medical School Hospital in Portland, OR and Assistant Head Nurse from 1966-1967.

After moving to Salisbury, NC in 1970, Mrs. Gish began using her health education as a volunteer for community health organizations. She served on the Board of Directors of Healthy Children of Rowan County for 3 years and was a Scout Camp Nurse at Dan Nicholas Park. From 2009-2015 she served on the Novant Health Rowan Medical Center Foundation Board of Directors, chairing several committees, and serving as Secretary-Treasurer.

A Hospice Volunteer for over 10 years, she was a member of thr Rowan Medical Center Hospice Advisory Council and Hospice Task Force. She Co-Chaired the Steering Committee to build the Novant Health Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House in Salisbury, NC, where she volunteers weekly. She was Chairman for Rowan Regional Partnership for Compassionate Care and currently serves on the Novant Health Hospice Advisory Board to provide hospice support and oversight.
She has been Co-Chair of the Novant Health Rowan Medical Center Patient Family Advisory Council and Co-Chair of Novant Health Rowan Medical Center's History Committee to research and document regional medical history, and create a Hospital Timeline Exhibit demonstrating the Medical Center's growth and progress and is a member of the Novant Health Rowan Medical Center Auxiliary.

An active member of Rowan County Medical Society Alliance since 1970, she served as President and has participated in local and state projects benefitting community health care and health education. She led the Alliance to advocate for a "9-1-1" Universal Emergency Phone Number System for the community and helped raise funds to publish Rowan and Davie Counties ~ Story of Medicine 1753-1976, and distributed the book nationally to genealogical societies and university libraries. She served as NC State Chairman for Doctors Day for the North Carolina Medical Society Alliance and was a NC representative to the American Medical Association Alliance National Conference in Chicago, Illinois. She won 2 awards for creating the Best Exhibit Design featuring Alliance projects presented at the 16 State Southern Medical Association Alliance Conference.

Between 1982-1985, Mrs. Gish served as President of Learn and Live, founded by the Medical Alliance to create an interactive Health Museum for the community. She spearheaded the $150,000 campaign to build the Learn and Live Hands-On Health Museum located in the Rowan-Salisbury Schools' Horizons Unlimited Supplementary Education Center, and supervised museum development, exhibit design and signage. As a Museum Docent, she enjoyed conducting museum tours for school children, college students, children with disabilities and civic groups. She received North Carolina Museum Council First Place Award for Marketing and Promoting a New Museum, the Learn and Live Health Museum. The Museum was later gifted to the Rowan-Salisbury School System. Medical Alliances from Hickory, NC, Columbus, OH, and representatives from Sweden visited Learn and Live seeking museum consultation. She later served as President of Horizons Unlimited Supplementary Education Advisory Board.

After writing grants for the Learn and Live Museum, and the Waterworks Visual Arts Center, she was a development consultant for area non-profit organizations including Hospice, the Red Cross, Healthy Children of Rowan, and the National Sports Writers and Sportscasters Museum. She has raised funds for the Heart Fund, Symphony, and the Cancer Society and continues fund raising efforts on behalf of several local organizations.

Her love of the arts led her to serve 3 terms as President of the Waterworks Visual Arts Center in Salisbury, NC, where she was a Docent, Art Gallery Guide, and volunteer for the Art Education Outreach Program benefitting area school children. The Waterworks employed her as Development Officer after she served as Secretary for the Waterworks Visual Arts Center's $600,000 "Making A Visible Difference Capital Campaign".

Mrs. Gish was organizing President of the first Salisbury Calligraphy Guild. She taught Calligraphy to children at the Waterworks Summer Art Camp, taught a History of Writing Class for the United Arts Council, and taught Folk Art, Fraktur Writing, and the Art of Illuminated Manuscripts of the Pennsylvania Germans at A Country Place in Salisbury, NC.

As Secretary of the Historic Salisbury Foundation Tour Guild, she served as a Costumed Guide and Docent for the Historic 1820 Dr. Josephus Hall House. As Chairman of the Guild 's Historic Postcard Project, she led development of funding and organized production, packaging, distribution and sale of the Historic Post Card Series featuring color photos and descriptive text of regional historic landmarks. Post card sales continue to provide funds that benefit the Historic Salisbury Foundation.

A 45-year member of the Peripatetic Reviewers Book Club, she served as President and Chaired its "Authors of Excellence $50,000 Capital Campaign" to raise funds supporting Catawba College's Brady Authors Symposium.

A member of First Presbyterian Church in Salisbury, NC, she is an Honorary Life Member of Presbyterian Women. She Chaired the Presbyterian Women's Committee to publish a cookbook to raise funds in support of on-going missions. In 1998, as Editor of Blended Blessings ~ Heavenly Carolina Cuisine, she led the Committee's production and regional distribution of the cookbook. The Blended Blessings Mission Fund was established with $50,000 in book sale proceeds.

She looks back on her career of volunteering as providing rewarding opportunities for growth while offering service to the greater community. She highlights Hospice, the Hospice House Project, and the Blended Blessings Cookbook for Presbyterian Women's Missions, as projects she hopes will have lasting benefit to help others.

For all of her contributions to the community and the lives of others, whether medically or civically, Mrs. Gish was named Salisbury Civitan District Citizen of the Year in 1989 by the Salisbury Civitan Club. She received the President's Award from the Waterworks Visual Arts Center and earned the Ave Cadwallader Distinguished Service to the Arts Award. She was recognized by Learn and Live for Outstanding Dedication to Community Health Education and by the Salisbury City Schools for Outstanding Service to the Salisbury City Schools for the Learn and Live Health Museum. She was recognized by Kappa Delta Pi, an International Honor Society in Education, for Outstanding Service To Education. In 2015 she was recognized by Novant Health Rowan Medical Center Foundation for Outstanding Service and Dedication. She has previously been featured in Who's Who of American Women.
