OAK RIDGE, TN, October 17, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present John Henry with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Mr. Henry celebrates many years' experience in his profession, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Now retired, Mr. Henry began his professional career as an instrument technician with Carbide & Carbon Chemical Company, the Department of Energy's contractor in Oak Ridge, TN in 1954. In 1956 he was promoted to Associate Physicist, and in 1961 to one of the Union Carbide Corporation's physicists in the nuclear division. In 1974 he was promoted to development specialist and in 1976 to Development Staff I. He continued in this position when Martin Marietta replaced Union Carbide as the DOE contractor, and remained until he retired in 1992.

Mr. Henry holds ten patents in electronic instrumentation, nuclear engineering, and space science; among them are a refrigerator which carried blood samples into space to study chromosome damage during Gemini 11, and a gear unit that allowed the mirrors on the Hubble Telescope to be adjusted.

In 1946 Mr. Henry entered the University of Florida planning to study Liberal Arts. When he realized that this was not his calling he transferred to Lincoln Memorial University intending to major in chemistry. Since he was a resident of Florida he could not take advantage of the financial break that was available to Tennessee residents. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1949 to 1952 in order to be eligible for the G I Bill. He returned to LMU, majoring in physics and mathematics and minoring in chemistry and music, and received a Bachelor of Science degree in 1954.

Throughout his career he was involved with a broad range of activities, and was a board member of many of them. He taught transistor circuit theory in the adult education program, was active in the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, and the Instrument Society of America. He received an IR 100 Award in 1979. He was president of the Atomic City Stamp Club, played tympani in the Oak Ridge Symphony Orchestra, served as publicity chairman in 1966-67 and as vice president in 1968-69, participated in amateur theatricals, was a leader of the Boy Scout troop, which was sponsored by St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, where he also taught Sunday School, served on the Vestry, was a chalice bearer, served on the Outreach Committee, which provides food and services to people in need for a dozen years, and sang tenor in the church choir for fifty eight years.

In recognition of outstanding contributions to his profession and the Marquis Who's Who community, John Henry has been featured on the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement website. Please visit www.ltachievers.com for more information about this honor.
