RIO RANCHO, NM, October 19, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Sally Severino, MD, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Severino celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Since 2000, Dr. Severino has been a professor emeritus of psychiatry at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine in Albuquerque, NM. In the five years leading up to this role, she was a professor of psychiatry. Before this appointment, she was employed at the Cornell University Medical College in New York City as an assistant professor of psychiatry from 1983 to 1988 and an associate professor of psychiatry from 1988 to 1995. While at Cornell University, she began a pastoral counseling service in the psychiatry department. Her first professional role was as an English teacher at the Walton Wittana Academy of Girls in Bangkok, Thailand, from 1958 to 1960.

Dr. Severino's interest in the field began when she found a curiosity about everything including herself. She wanted to merge her psychological self and her spiritual self, and that began with pursuing her psychological self. She began her studies at Wichita State University in Wichita, KS, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts, magna cum laude, in 1961. She continued her academics at the Teachers College of Columbia University, where she earned a Master of Arts in 1965.

Ultimately, she received a Doctor of Medicine from the Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City in 1970. From there, she earned a certification as a psychoanalyst from the Columbia University Center for Psychoanalytic Training and Research in 1980. Now, she continues her involvement in the field as an honorary faculty member of Alpha Omega Alpha.

Dr. Severino earned the Eric Hoffer Award for the book she wrote titled "Sacred Desire." For her other book, titled "Behold our Moral Body," she was Finalist for the New Mexico Arizona Book Award. In 2000, she was given the Presidential Award from the American College of Psychoanalysts. She considers receiving this award to be the highlight of her career.

Dr. Severino has accrued other awards, including the John J. Weber Prize for Candidate Research from the Columbia University Center for Psychoanalytic Training and Research in 1980 and the Wholeness of Life Award from Hospital Chaplaincy, Inc., of New York Hospital in New York City in 1994. She has previously been featured in Who's Who in America and Who's Who of American Women.
