HUNTINGDON, PA, October 19, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Paul D. Schettler, Ph.D., with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Schettler celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. Schettler is a professor emeritus of chemistry at Juniata College in Huntingdon, PA. Accepting his first appointment at the college in 1967, shortly after completing a Ph.D. at Yale University, he is considered by many as an expert in physical chemistry. During the course of his tenure, Dr. Schettler was named a Charles A. Dana professor of chemistry who was known for his sheer enthusiasm for the subject. Dedicated to ensuring that each and every student enjoyed what he was teaching, he thrived on creating an experience inside the four walls of his classroom every single day.

A background that began in metal ammonia solutions with an interest in the electrode kinetics of sodium metal ammonia solutions, Dr. Schettler then became involved in helping with the energy crisis of the 1970s. His efforts included trying to solve the problem of how natural gas is stored in shale source rock, which eventually resulted in obtaining contracts with the Columbia Gas System Service Corporation, the Department of Energy, the Gas Research Institute and several wireline and service companies. Dr. Schettler then studied field flow fractionation, gas chromatography and computational chemistry before getting into calculating gas chromatography retention times.

Throughout his five decades of research and teachings, he very much relied on the participation of his students, for which he has mentored thousands in both chemistry and philosophy.

During his career, Dr. Schettler was known for using his own personal funding to underwrite summer research in the chemistry department, beginning in the 1990s. By 2012, he had begun choosing grantees to the provost's office and, two years later, decided to use $20,000 annually for what he named Innovation Educational Improvement grants. Dr. Schetter plans to continue his legacy of learning by making a provision in his will to establish an endowment of $400,000 to continue these grants long after his passing.

Born in Salt Lake City, UT, to a mother who earned her master's degree in biology and a father who was a Rhode's Scholar at Oxford University in philosophy, Dr. Schettler initially became interested in chemistry in the fourth grade. After high school, he attended the University of Utah, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in chemistry, and Yale University, where he completed a Ph.D. in physical chemistry. He also completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City from 1963 to 1964, followed by a second postdoctoral fellowship at Antioch College in Yellow Springs, OH, from 1966 to 1967, before being hired by Juniata College. Married since 1965 to Karen Hegsted, Dr. Schettler has two children. He has been cited in the 64th and 65th editions of Who's Who in America.

In recognition of outstanding contributions to his profession and the Marquis Who's Who community, Paul D. Schettler, Ph.D., has been featured on the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement website. Please visit www.ltachievers.com for more information about this honor.
