MADISON, WI, October 23, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Richard Steeves, MD, Ph.D., with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Steeves celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Since 2000, Dr. Steeves has been a professor emeritus at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, WI, where he was a professor from 1992 to 2000 and an associate professor of human oncology from 1980 to 1992. Furthermore, he was an associate professor of genetics at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in Bronx, NY, from 1972 to 1980. His first professional role was as a senior and associate scientist at the Roswell Park Memorial Institute in Buffalo, NY, from 1967 to 1972.

During his career, Dr. Steeves has had such notable achievements as developing a simple system for scoring cosmetic effects of radiation post-conservation therapy for breast cancer. He, along with others, also discovered the simple assay method for the leukemia virus in mice. His goal was to be able to cure humans of leukemia. Unfortunately, the research did not accomplish that but he still considers this research to be a highlight of his career. However, he did expand his knowledge of viral interactions during leukemia development in mice.

Another highlight of Dr. Steeves' career was his work with hyperthermia, in combination with radiation. He performed a matched pair analysis of proving efficacy of hyperthermia in treatment of breast cancer in women. This work did not follow through because the care it takes to deliver it was great and the time involved was intensive.

Before entering the field, Dr. Steeves was inspired by his father's advice. He told him that medical science was a noble profession, a great opportunity in life, and he believed in him. His father had a Doctor of Philosophy in chemistry and always regretted not pursuing a medical degree. Because of this, Dr. Steeves followed his passion in cancer research and ultimately trained in oncology.

Dr. Steeves pursued academics at the University of Western Ontario in London, Canada, and earned a Doctor of Medicine in 1961. He then continued his studies at the University of Toronto in Canada and obtained a Doctor of Philosophy in 1966. From there, he received a diploma from the American Board of Radiology. In addition to contributing numerous articles to professional journals, he wrote "A Cancer Patient's Guide to Radiation Therapy" in 1992. He has previously been featured in Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare and Who's Who in Science and Engineering.

In recognition of outstanding contributions to his profession and the Marquis Who's Who community, Richard Steeves, MD, Ph.D., has been featured on the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement website. Please visit www.ltachievers.com for more information about this honor.
