Dr. Kavaler-Adler has been in private practice as a clinical psychologist, psychotherapist/psychoanalyst in New York for over 40 years, offering in-person, online and telephone sessions. She is also the founder and executive director of the Object Relations Institute for Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis, which was established in 1991, and is a senior supervisor, senior teacher and training analyst. Specialized in psychoanalytic psychotherapy, couples and groups for therapy, mourning, supervision, self-expression and writing, Dr. Kavaler-Adler works with individuals struggling with all forms of anxiety, loss, trauma, self-sabotage and relationship issues. Dr. Kavaler-Adler has published six books and over 70 articles. She has received 16 awards for her writing, including the prestigious Gradiva Award from the National Association for the Advancement of Psychoanalysis for "Mourning, Spirituality and Psychic Change" (Routledge 2003). She is currently working on publishing six other books.

Dr. Kavaler-Adler is a fellow of the American Board and Academy of Psychoanalysis and is on the editorial board of the International Journal of Controversial Discussions.
