AUSTIN, TX, March 27, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Myra Hargrave McIlvain has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

For over 50 years, Ms. McIlvain has set herself apart as a prolific writer and historical author whose work often spotlights the rich tapestry of Texas' past. Her impressive writing portfolio includes narratives for historical markers, a family humor column, articles that have appeared in nationwide newspapers and magazines, and five remarkable books about Texas published by prestigious publishers, including the University of Texas Press, Texas Historical Commission, and Eakin Press. From 1977 to 1983, Ms. McIlvain first leveraged her writing skill set working as a freelance historical marker writer for the Texas Historical Commission, a position in which she crafted the narratives that appeared on historical markers throughout the state of Texas to spotlight significant places and events.

After focusing for over five years on historical marker writing, Ms. McIlvain wrote her first book, a guidebook with artist Virginia Adams Erickson, titled "6 Central Texas Auto Tours," Following its release in 1980, the publication attracted the attention of the University of Texas Press, which led her to write three more books over the course of five years. Along with writing and publishing various books, Ms. McIlvain penned numerous articles, which were picked up by the Texas Historical Commission and compiled in an anthology titled "Shadows on the Land: An Anthology of Texas Historical Marker Stories", which was released in 1984.

Later on in her career, between 1992 and 2001, Ms. McIlvain served as the president of Myra McIlvain Tours Inc. Through this venture, she combined her passion for history with her entrepreneurial spirit, designing and leading groups on historic tours throughout Texas, across the United States, and abroad. Moreover, since 1985, she has imparted her extensive knowledge by giving Texas history lectures.

For nearly 40 years, Ms. McIlvain has captivated audiences with her engaging storytelling. She has delivered lectures at all five of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute continuing education programs at the University of Texas at Austin and traveled to various retirement centers to bring historical stories to elderly residents. Her ability to weave narratives that bring historical events and figures to life has not only educated but also inspired a love for history among her listeners and readers.

In reflecting on her career overall, Ms. McIlvain attributes her success to the relationships she has cultivated through her lectures. Along with lecturing, her interests propelled her to pursue academic studies that bolstered her writing endeavors. Prior to her first writing endeavor, she completed coursework in history at the University of Houston in the late 1950s and later on earned a Bachelor of Arts in history from the University of Texas at Austin in 1992.

In recognition of her literary contributions, Ms. McIlvain has received various book awards from the Texas Association of Authors. Her most recent 2023 publications include "The Knotted Ring," "A Long Way Home," and "The Doctor's Wife." Looking forward, Ms. McIlvain plans to continue writing to explore and share the multifaceted history of Texas and hopes to continue to broaden her readership.
