Those that struggle with anorexia and bulimia generally do so to control their weight. These individuals do not get all their required nutrients though because of starvation or purging. They are at risk of damaging their internal organs, muscle weakening or esophagus deterioration.
The Pen and Paper Diet, a new book by Michael Dow, provides a simple way for any adult of any age and activity level to control their weight to a specific pound indefinitely. This can be done as long as individuals track calorie consumption. "If a person consumes the appropriate amount of calories for one's height, age, sex, activity level and weight, then one can maintain their ideal weight," says Dow.
"This diet will be ideal for those that struggle with anorexia and bulimia because it can enable these individuals to maintain their weight at the low end of BMI like they would prefer while digesting their food," Dow says.
Dow says the book is based on science because "it uses research about estimated calorie requirements for people with different physical activity levels from the National Academy of Sciences. Also, total calorie content about the majority of the world's foods and many beverages are provided in the book to assist in tracking calorie consumption which was obtained from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA)."
"This diet is unique in that the book provides all the tools the general public needs to control one's weight," says Dow. He says that people with all educational backgrounds have understood the concepts in the book [from a high school dropout (non-GED) to an MD]. Also, a local physician has started selling the book in his clinic.
The book retails for US$14.95 and is currently available at http://stores.lulu.com/thepenandpaperdiet. The book is also available with online retailers (i.e. Amazon.com, BarnesandNoble.com, etc.) and will be available in stores soon.
An expanded edition (US$39.95) has also been published which provides all calculations for estimated calorie requirements for adults from age 19 to 84. This edition was intended for Health Professionals that deal with many people in regards to weight concerns. The basic edition requires an individual to perform several basic math calculations to determine their estimated calorie requirement. The book has been translated into Spanish and is also available in a generic international version (Metric Edition).
