SURREY, ENGLAND, June 26, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- According to money off voucher site DiscountVouchers.co.uk survey, Brits are working hard so they can spend hard on their looks for the impending summer holidays.
The website has conducted a survey which showed those respondents from East Anglia agreed that they would spend more than GBP2,500 on their appearance before their holiday, whereas Londoners saying they would fall short of the GBP2,500 mark. Over 50% said they would have no problem with spending up to GBP500 and those that would spend GBP1,000 amounted to 12%.
One possible reason for wanting to look their best could be from the recent influx of regional reality shows, such as Made in Chelsea, Geordie Shore and The Only Way Is Essex, which might have compounded Brits' efforts to look their best.
TOWIE is the abbreviation for The Only Way is Essex, and there is one quote from the show that might have struck a chord with viewers, "No carbs before Marbs", in which they would refuse to eat carbohydrates before their holiday in Marbella.
Before going on holiday, 83% of the 700 participants in the voucher website DiscountVouchers.co.uk said they would buy new shoes and clothes, and over 50% would buy new swimming outfits. More than 20% would have treatments for their skin to look better and around half of the respondents would have their hair cut before heading to their summer destination.
Around 20% admitted that before they go on holiday they would use a tanning salon or sun bed to add some colour to their skin before baring all on holiday, and those that would diet or go to the gym amounted to just under a fifth.
The region that is most likely to get pre-holiday tans and a trip to the hairdresser was the North East, although they are less likely to head to a beautician. Doug Scott, the Managing Directory of DiscountVouchers.co.uk the UK's leading discount website, commented on the survey, "Although the economic climate still hasn't got much better, Brits are still willing to spend up to GBP500 on preparing themselves for the beach, despite cutting down on spending on petrol and looking for a discount on their energy bills.
"It seems that pride gets in the way of finances when there is a holiday on the cards."
Before going on holiday, people in the North West said they would work out more (25%) and try and lose weight (60%), in order to feel and look better.
Scottish, Welsh and those from London said they would stop drinking so much and 42% said they would improve their dress sense, before boarding a plane to sunnier climes.
In seven different regions, the most common answer to the survey on giving advice to those heading overseas this summer was to wear more sun cream to avoid sun burn.
