TAMPA, FL, September 25, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Beanpole teenagers in the back seat, a cargo area full of young trees for that landscaping project or a vehicle piled high with with camping gear -- wouldn't it be great if you could just see through all those things for a clear view behind your vehicle?
Now you'll soon be able to thanks to Nissan's Smart Rearview Mirror, which debuted at the 2014 New York International Auto Show. On this first showing, Ferman Nissan of Tampa reports, the World Traffic Safety Symposium bestowed its 2014 Traffic Safety Achievement Award on this new rear view technology. (1)
The system works both like a conventional rear view mirror and a rear view camera with the driver being able to switch back and forth as the situation requires. (1) The view of the high-resolution camera is displayed right in the mirror where a driver's eyes have been trained over years of practice to look. (1)
The crisp image displayed via the LCD monitor in the mirror also improves what the driver can see in low light conditions, such as during early morning winter commutes or after-hours driving. (1) This contributes to the minimization of injuries and fatalities, the goal of the World Traffic Safety Symposium's award. (1)
The Smart Rear-view Mirror will roll out first in Nissan's home market of Japan with a roll-out to worldwide markets, including Tampa dealerships, to follow in the near future. (1)
