PARKVILLE, MD, July 1, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Pearl C. Duppins, Educational Program Coordinator IV for the Kennedy Krieger Institute, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in all aspects of curriculum development.
Ms. Duppins has 32 years of professional experience in education, 23 of these years were spent at the Kennedy Krieger Institute, an educational, medical, research institute specializing in services to students with special needs. In her current position, Ms. Duppins specializes in the implementation of the IEP process. Her responsibilities include overseeing the individualized education plan process for special education students, managing admissions and transitions, ensuring compliance with government regulations, and designing and implementing individual plans that will magnify a student's abilities. Additionally, she serves as a specialist in the Office of Admissions Compliance and Transition for Special Education.
During her employment at the Kennedy Kreiger and St. Elizabeth High Schools, Ms. Duppins was a special education teacher, specializing in the area of mathematics. She served in this teaching position for a total of 23 years as well as an adjunct professor at the Community College of Baltimore City. Originally set on a career as a tailor, she was advised that she had the right personality for special education and was inspired to focus on that field after completing an internship. Ms. Duppins attributes her success to the influence of her family, who taught her the value of scholarship and the importance of completing anything that she starts.
A graduate of the Coppin State University, Ms. Duppins received her Master of Education in Rehabilitation Counseling in 1994. She is also a graduate of the World Harvest Bible College School of External Studies Program. She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., a public service organization, the Association of Teachers of Mathematics, Council for Exceptional Children, and the Association of Non-Public Special Education Facilities. She names Kingdom Life Church, Baltimore, World Vision, World Harvest Breakthrough Project, United Way and the Special Olympics as her favorite charities. In five years, Ms. Duppins aspires to work with the adult population in the field of literacy or vocational rehabilitation counseling.
