PlayPokerOnline.com Update on the Ongoing US Online Poker Shutdown Saga

An update on the ongoing US online poker shutdown.

May 01, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- PlayPokerOnline.com reports that following the shutdown of online poker sites in the US, the industry is getting support from non profit organizations like Poker Players Alliance. Such organizations are putting in more effort into lobbying for the legalization of online poker and the development of federal regulations for the same.

According to the executive director of Poker Player Alliance, millions of dollars are being spent in prosecuting the operators and others involved with online poker. He stated that instead of doing this, if online gaming could be regulated and licensed, the earnings from the industry could translate into billions.

Organizations like Poker Players Alliance provide platforms where US based poker players get the opportunity to voice their support for the industry. In light of the current situation, they are urging the Congress to pass legislation for legalizing online poker rooms. Some of the Poker Players Alliance members pushing for this are gaming companies based in Las Vegas and owners of race tracks.

PlayPokerOnline.com also revealed that in an effort to help players contact President Obama, the Department of Justice and the members of Congress, the organization has set up a webpage called 'Take Action'. The web page has a link to the Facebook page of the Department of Justice, on which supporters can leave comments. Poker Players Association encourages everyone with pro-poker sentiments, to post their thoughts here. The organization urges those posting comments to do so in a polite manner.

Players can also reach authorities via an online letter in which they will have to fill out their phone number, email address and name. A spokesperson for PlayPokerOnline.com said that the letter stated that being a poker player, voter and constituent, the signer is disappointed and frustrated with the recent decision that the Department of Justice has taken with regard to the online poker industry. It goes on to elaborate that instead of this action protecting consumers in the US, it has caused more harm to them.

According to PlayPokerOnline.com, a few members of the Congress have been doing their bit to support the online poker industry. Alfonse M D'Amato, a former senator, has been at the forefront of this effort, in which poker tournaments for charity have been played. The PlayPokerOnline.com spokesperson mentioned that "When the Department of Justice indicted the executives of the top three sites, this campaign and its members were shocked." He stated that currently, the industry is under turmoil, with "key operators in the gambling industry, like Wynn Resorts, keeping away from the companies that own the banned sites and even withdrawing their business alliances."
