/24-7PressRelease/ -- Shankari the Alchemist is known worldwide for her exquisite, handcrafted jewelry designs, her empowering workshops, books and mosaics.
In Bali, Shankari has now donated the use of her Yoga space at Shankari's Bali Retreat for the children of her staff and the local young people to use as a practice and performance space.
"The young people of Bali are tapping into a new world, connected by their mobile phones and ipods. We want to help preserve their heritage, connecting them to their ancestry."
In Bali there are various categories of dance (i.e. barong, legong, kecak) including epic performances from the Vedic texts Mahabharata and Ramayana.
Traditionally, dancers in Bali learn this intricate art as small children from their mothers even starting as young as the age of four. In Balinese dance the movement is closely associated with the rhythms produced by the gamelan, a musical ensemble specific to Bali and around Indonesia.
The face, eyes, hands, arms, hips, and feet express traditional interpretations of their tropical environment and ancient lore.
In the paradise of Bali, Shankari is doing her part to protect this elegant and exotic art form for generations to come.
"We are working to make a difference; weaving the past and the future...
Empowering the future of Bali with the traditions of the past."
