OAK HILL, FL, March 10, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Michael F. McMaster, CFS, has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Mr. McMaster is a distinguished marine biologist and entrepreneur, renowned for his expertise in the rearing of marine pelagic fish larvae. As the chief executive officer and senior scientist at Pompano Farms LLC, he has made significant contributions to the field of mariculture, particularly in the farming of Florida pompano, one of the highest-value seafood fish globally. His comprehensive manuals on pompano farming are indispensable resources for companies worldwide, and his consulting services are sought after for their depth of knowledge and innovation.

Boasting a career spanning decades, Mr. McMaster began working in commercial mariculture in 1971. After gathering industry experience, in 1984, he created Mariculture Technologies International, Inc., where he remains as president. In 2007, he took on the presidency of Pompano Farms LLC, further solidifying his influence in the industry. From 1995 to 2017, he also served as president and operations manager at Northeast Brine Shrimp. Throughout his career, he has been an active member of the World Mariculture Society, having first joined the society in 1969.

Mr. McMaster's academic background laid the foundation for his professional achievements. He earned a Bachelor of Science in fisheries science from Utah State University College of Wildlife Biology in 1969 and an Associate of Science from Southwestern College in 1966. Certifications such as a Master's captains license from the United States Coast Guard and dive master certification from the National Association of Underwater Instructors complemented his traditional education. He is certified as a fishery research biologist with The American Institute of Fishery Research Biologist and is a certified fishery scientist with the American Fisheries Society. In addition, Mr. McMaster has over 8,000 commercial scuba dives to his credit, conducted on many coral reefs in the western hemisphere, which has greatly complimented his broad understanding of coral reef ecology and related fisheries.

In the initial stages of his career, Mr. McMaster conducted groundbreaking research on marine pelagic fish larval rearing at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, an experience that led to a pivotal opportunity with Oceanography Mariculture Industries, Inc. (OMI) in 1971. There, he developed technology for pompano artificial spawning, larval rearing and established the world's first pompano farm in the Dominican Republic.

Alongside his professional endeavors, Mr. McMaster participates in civic activities. Because of his expertise, Stanford University invited him to judge business plans from global entrepreneurs in fish farming, providing insights into projects from Ukraine and Africa. For his skill in faming Florida pompano, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization acknowledged him as a world expert with Honorarium.

Though he has taken a step back after selling his last farm and now offering consulting services, Mr. McMaster remains committed to advancing pompano farming in the U.S. He envisions South Florida as an ideal location for marine farming due to its favorable climate and natural water resources, aiming to enhance the availability of domestic farmed marine seafood. Through his dedication and pioneering work, he continues to leave an indelible mark on the field of mariculture, inspiring future generations to explore innovative solutions for sustainable seafood production.
