Dr. Patterson worked at the University of Michigan prior to joining the faculty of Virginia Tech. He began his career as an electrical engineer for Westinghouse Electric in Baltimore, Md. Dr. Patterson's own academic roots stem from the University of Wisconsin, from which he earned a Ph.D., an MBA and a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering. He is a member of the American Finance Association and the American Economic Association.
In recognition of his accomplishments, Dr. Patterson has been featured in the 30th through 37th editions of Who's Who in Finance and Business, the 53rd through 70th editions of Who's Who in America, and the 6th edition of Who's Who in American Education.
