Dr. Gerald F. Dionne earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics from Loyola College (Montreal), graduating summa cum laude in 1956, and a Bachelor of Engineering Physics from McGill University, graduating with high honors in 1958. He went on to earn a Master of Science in physics from Carnegie-Mellon University in 1959 and a Ph.D. in physics from McGill University in 1964.
Dr. Dionne has held several different positions over the years, including junior engineer with the IBM Corporation, senior engineer at Sylvania Electric Products, research assistant and lecturer at McGill University, research affiliate with the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (since 2004), and senior research associate at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft. He currently serves as a Lincoln laboratory research staff member at Flex Time, a position he has held since 2012. In November 2016, he will complete 50 years.
Dr. Dionne is the author of text book "Magnetic Oxides" (2009), and has contributed a large number of articles to science journals. Dr. Dionne holds patents for microwave, superconducting, magnetic, optical and medical technology, and has reported successful research in magnetism and magnetic materials, magnetoelastic and magneto-optic phenomena and devices, magnetic spin transport, magnetoresistance, and superconductivity theory and devices. He has also completed research in submillimeter-wave and far-infrared physics and instrumentation for atmospheric spectroscopy, as well as the physics of electron and ion emission.
Elected a Fellow of IEEE in 1994, Dr. Dionne was also raised to the grade of Fellow by the American Physical Society in 2003. He also remains an active member of the Materials Research Society, and the Society of Sigma Xi.
